総理府実施の『緑化推進に関する世論調査』(1983) および『都市緑化に関する世論調査』(1991) の回答者属性別集計表をもとに多次元尺度法 (MDS) による解析を行い, 1)「みどりのイメージ」に関する項目間でのバラつきが1983年と比較して1991年に少なくなる傾向がみられること, 2)「よく見受けられるみどり」と「守り増やしたいみどり」との関係が都市規模の違いによって分類されること, 3)「みどり」に関する全質問の選択肢を説明因子とする回答者属性の類型化の結果から, 都市規模・年齢において, 大都市から小都市・若年から老年への序列化の傾向がみられることが明らかになった.
