Distributed and Anonymous Publish-Subscribe

2013
Publish-subscribe is a scheme for distributing information based on interests. While security mechanisms have been added to publish-subscribe, privacy, in particular anonymous communication is hardly considered. We summarize security and privacy requirements for such systems, including an adversary model for privacy.

Location-aware publish/subscribe

Proceedings of the 19th ACM SIGKDD international conference on Knowledge discovery and data mining, 2013
Location-based services have become widely available on mobile devices. Existing methods employ a pull model or user-initiated model, where a user issues a query to a server which replies with location-aware answers. To provide users with instant replies, a push model or server-initiated model is becoming an inevitable computing model in the next ...

Soft state in publish/subscribe

Proceedings of the Third ACM International Conference on Distributed Event-Based Systems, 2009
Building survivable content-based publish/subscribe systems is difficult. Every node in a distributed publish/subscribe system stores a significant amount of routing state which can be easily corrupted due to message omissions, link and node failures.

Scalable ranked publish/subscribe

Proceedings of the VLDB Endowment, 2008
Publish/subscribe (pub/sub) systems are designed to efficiently match incoming events (e.g., stock quotes) against a set of subscriptions (e.g., trader profiles specifying quotes of interest). However, current pub/sub systems only support a simple binary notion of matching: an event either matches a subscription or it does not; for instance, a stock ...

Preventing Spam in Publish/Subscribe

26th IEEE International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems Workshops (ICDCSW'06), 2006
Publish/subscribe protocols are becoming popular on the Internet with the advent of RSS-feeds and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) events. Since publish/subscribe is by nature many-to-many form of communication, it is vital to prevent spam and bogus messages. This problem has not yet been fully addressed. In this paper, we investigate the spam problem

The Å Publish/Subscribe Framework

2009
This paper describes the design and implementation of a novel decentralized publish/subscribe framework. The primary goal of the design was for a high level of end-developer and user accessibility and simplicity. Furthermore, it was desired to have strong support for occasionally-connected clients and support for mobile and web-based systems.

Self-organizing publish/subscribe

Proceedings of the 2nd international doctoral symposium on Middleware - DSM '05, 2005
The increasing availability of broadband Internet access coming along with cheap flatrate tariffs changed the way the Internet is used over the last years. As a result, we observe more users that become producers and collaborate instead of solely consuming information as they did before.

Anonymous Publish-Subscribe Overlays

2016
Freedom of speech is a core value of our society. While it can be exercised anonymously towards undesired observers in the physical world, the Internet is based on unique and nonanonymous identifiers (IDs) for every participant. Anonymity, however, is a crucial requirement to exercise freedom of speech using the Internet without having to face ...

Transactional publish/subscribe

Proceedings of the 1998 ACM SIGMOD international conference on Management of data, 1998
For many years, TIBCO (the Information Bus Company) has pioneered the use of Publish/Subscribe—a form of push technology — to build flexible, real-time loosely-coupled distributed applications. Today, Publish/Subscribe is used by 300 of the world's largest financial institutions, deployed in 6 of the top 10 semiconductor manufacturer ...
