Temperature Effects in Packaged RF MEMS Switches with Optimized Gold Electroplating Process

open access: yesMicromachines
Due to its excellent electrical performance, mechanical reliability, and thermal stability, electroplated gold is still the most commonly used material for movable beams in RF MEMS switches.

C2α‐carbanion‐protonating glutamate discloses tradeoffs between substrate accommodation and reaction rate in actinobacterial 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

PARP inhibitors induce a senescence phenotype in non‐small cell lung carcinoma cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Talazoparib is the most potent inducer of senescence among different PARP1 inhibitors in human NSCLC cells. In the absence of PARP, no senescence phenotype was observed, demonstrating that PARP1 is necessary for the induction of senescence by this inhibitor.

Pull-in MEMS Inclinometer

open access: yes, 2012
A novel MEMS inclinometer is presented in this paper. The sensor uses the pull-in voltages of microfabricated structures as the transduction mechanism enabling a high-resolution, auto-calibrated inclinometer. Pull-in is characterized by the sudden loss

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Quasi-Static Voltage Scaling for Energy Minimization with Time Constraints

open access: yes, 2005
Supply voltage scaling and adaptive body-biasing are important tech-niques that help to reduce the energy dissipation of embedded systems. This is achieved by dynamically adjusting the voltage and performance settings according to the application needs ...

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Simultaneous communication and processor voltage scaling for dynamic and leakage energy reduction in time-constrained systems

open access: yes, 2004
We propose a new technique for the combined voltage scaling of processors and communication links, taking into account dynamic as well as leakage power consumption.

Establishing an assay to evaluate d‐amino acid oxidase enzyme kinetics and inhibition using WST‐8 redox dye

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study investigated a novel WST‐8‐based assay for evaluating d‐Amino acid oxidase (DAO) inhibitors. We confirmed its effectiveness using known inhibitors and found that uremic toxins possess relatively weak inhibitory activity compared to existing drugs.
