Pulmonary artery banding (PAB) is a simple surgical technique to reduce pulmonary overcirculation in some congenital heart disease. In the beginning, when the use of cardiopulmonary bypass was affected by many deleterious effects, this technique played a fundamental role in the treatment of patients with congenital heart defects and an intracardiac ...

Abstract Stenosis of the main pulmonary artery and of its major and more peripheral branches is now a well recognized entity. The occurrence of associated congenital cardiac lesions is frequent. This report adds five patients with pulmonary artery stenosis to the twenty-eight previously described.

Over a period of 12 years, two cases of pulmonary arterial aneurysms were encountered in our autopsy data of 13 cases of congenital heart defects with right-sided infective endocarditis. Pulmonary arterial aneurysms are rare lesions and may be categorized as central or peripheral.

Pulmonary Artery Catheterization
Critical Care Clinics, 1992After two decades, hemodynamic invasive monitoring using a flow-directed, balloon-tipped, pulmonary artery (PA) catheter has established itself as a significant component of acute clinical care. In spite of continued recommendations for limitations, restrictions, moratoria, and even abandonment, growth in catheter use continues.

Surgical creation of pulmonary stenosis has become well established as palliative treatment for the infant with a large left to right shunt at the ventricular level and refractory congestive heart failure. The procedure has also been shown to be useful in the palliation of otherwise irreparable defects that cause high levels of pressure and flow in the

Pulmonary artery "sling" indicates the vascular anomaly wherein the left pulmonary artery arises from the right pulmonary artery and traverses between the esophagus and trachea to enter the left lung. Respiratory symptoms may result from compression of the trachea and right mainstem bronchus by the anomalous vessel as well as by associated ...

A 1-month old infant girl was noted to have a right-sided aortic arch on chest x-ray. Nuclear perfusion examination showed markedly decreased flow to the left lung. Given the presence of pulmonary vasculature on the chest film, occult pulmonary artery was suspected and confirmed by angiography.

Eighteen patients who underwent surgical treatment of pulmonary artery sling at this institution since 1969 were reviewed. Four of them had associated tracheal stenoses produced by complete cartilaginous rings (stovepipe trachea). All patients underwent operation. The median age at operation was 180 days (range, 27 days to 54 months).
