A comparison of the effects of lung protective ventilation and conventional ventilation on the occurrence of atelectasis during laparoscopic surgery in young infants: a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine
ObjectiveThis study utilized lung ultrasound to investigate whether lung protective ventilation reduces pulmonary atelectasis and improves intraoperative oxygenation in infants undergoing laparoscopic surgery.MethodsEighty young infants (aged 1–6 months)

From Metabolic Crisis to Molecular Classification: Multidisciplinary Management of Synchronous Endometrioid Ovarian and Endometrial Carcinomas With Massive Tumor Burden

open access: yesCancer Nexus, EarlyView.
Managing massive tumor burden in synchronous endometrioid carcinomas. The graphical abstract summarizes the clinical pathway from presentation with massive ascites, pleural effusion, and critical metabolic abnormalities to multidisciplinary stabilization, surgical management, integrated morphologic–molecular classification, and shared decision‐making ...

Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging of thorax in diagnosis of pulmonary embolism

open access: yesMedicine Science, 2018
Pulmonary embolism (PE) has a high mortality rate and a considerable incidence in emergency care. Thorax computed tomography (CT) angiography is the primary diagnosis method for PE, but has many contraindications.

Biomarkers of lung congestion and injury in acute heart failure

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 781-789, April 2025.
Abstract Acute heart failure (AHF) classification and management are primarily based on lung congestion and/or hypoperfusion. The quantification of the vascular and tissue lung damage is not standard practice though biomarkers of lung injury may play a relevant role in this context.

Hypervision Proton Surgery: The Future Direction of Proton Therapy

open access: yesiNew Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Proton beams provide unique physical advantages characterized by a low entrance dose, negligible exit dose, and a sharp Bragg peak, which enable superior sparing of normal tissues and support safe dose escalation for improved tumor control. However, conventional photon‐based fractionation remains widely used in proton therapy, where prolonged ...

Diagnostic Performance of Comprehensive Point‐of‐Care Ultrasound for Pediatric Tuberculosis in Spain: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Ultrasound, EarlyView.
In children with presumptive tuberculosis, comprehensive point‐of‐care (cPOCUS) identified key thoracic abnormalities with high specificity and excellent inter‐reader reliability. Although diagnostic sensitivity was modest and examinations often incomplete, cPOCUS shows promise as a complementary, radiation‐free imaging tool.

Cytoreductive Surgery in Patients With Metastatic Succinate Dehydrogenase‐Deficient Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors

open access: yesJournal of Surgical Oncology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Succinate dehydrogenase‐deficient (SDH‐deficient) gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) are characterized by variable disease biology with poor responses to traditional tyrosine kinase inhibitors. The role of surgical intervention has been highly debated.

A model of pulmonary atelectasis in rats: activation of alveolar macrophage and cytokine release

open access: yes, 1993
Although atelectasis frequently occurs after surgery and trauma, and such patients have elevated body temperatures, the mechanism of temperature elevation secondary to atelectasis is unknown.
