Dobutamine stress echocardiography for the assessment of pressure-flow relationships of the pulmonary circulation.

Chest, 2014
BACKGROUND Stress testing of the pulmonary circulation (via increasing pulmonary blood flow) can reveal abnormal mean pulmonary artery pressure-cardiac output (mPpa-Q) responses, which may facilitate early diagnosis of pulmonary vascular disease.

Proximal pulmonary arterial obstruction decreases the time constant of the pulmonary circulation and increases right ventricular afterload.

Journal of applied physiology, 2013
The time constant of the pulmonary circulation, or product of pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) and compliance (Ca), called the RC-time, has been reported to remain constant over a wide range of pressures, etiologies of pulmonary hypertension, and ...

Digitalis and the pulmonary circulation

American Heart Journal, 1961
Abstract In anesthetized dogs, the intravenous injection of acetyl strophanthidin caused a slight decrease in pulmonary arterial pressure which could not be explained by the effect on left atrial pressure. There was a marked decrease in the pulmonary venous flow, which was often accompanied by cardiac slowing and an increase in the calculated ...

Role of the fragility of the pulmonary blood-gas barrier in the evolution of the pulmonary circulation.

American Journal of Physiology. Regulatory Integrative and Comparative Physiology, 2013
In 1953 Frank Low published the first high-resolution electron micrographs of the human pulmonary blood-gas barrier. These showed that a structure only 0.3-μm thick separated the capillary blood from the alveolar gas, immediately suggesting that the ...

Pulmonary Circulation in Hypoxia

International Journal of Sports Medicine, 1992
Hypoxia constricts the pulmonary vessels. An increase in pulmonary vascular resistance is seen in normal subjects during hypoxic breathing at sea level, in acclimatized lowlanders and in high altitude natives. Hypoxic pulmonary hypertension in all these circumstances is most generally moderate, except in high altitude natives at exercise.

Prostaglandins and the pulmonary circulation

Prostaglandins, 1973
Abstract Prostaglandins (PG) E 1 , E 2 , F 2 α , and A 1 were infused into 15 normal mongrel dogs at doses varying from .04 – 6.0 μg/kg/min. Pressures were recorded from the pulmonary artery, left atrium and femoral artery; pulmonary blood volume and cardiac output were determined using sequential indicator dilution curves from injections into the ...

Pharmacology of the Pulmonary Circulation

2011
The pulmonary vasculature is a complex system, and studies of the effects of anesthetic drugs on this system are often contradictory. A balanced anesthetic technique with adherence to the hemodynamic goals of maintenance of right ventricular preload and right coronary artery perfusion is the safest choice for patients with PHTN.

The pulmonary circulation

Current Opinion in Anaesthesiology, 1992
Recent studies have emphasized the complex regulation of the pulmonary circulation. This increased understanding should result in new therapeutic approaches in the treatment of hypoxia and pulmonary hypertension. This review will discuss some of the recent advances in our understanding of the pulmonary circulation.

The Pulmonary Circulation [PDF]

open access: possible, 2015
The pulmonary circulation carries oxygen-depleted blood from the right heart to the lungs and returns oxygenated blood to the left heart for delivery to the systemic circulation while serving as a source of humoral mediator production and a barrier to the exchange of fluid and solutes.

Pulmonary circulation in the reindeer

Basic Research in Cardiology, 1978
Right heart catheterizations were performed in 56 sessions on 25 reindeer with determinations of blood pressure and oxygen saturation. Cardiac output was calculated from cineangiocardiograms. When the animals were placed in prone position, heart rate was about 50/min, mixed venous blood oxygen saturation 68 to 72%, right ventricular systolic pressure ...
