Pulmonary compliance in patients with cardiac disease
The American Journal of Medicine, 1957Abstract Pulmonary compliance was measured by the volume-step method during inspiration in eighteen patients with cardiac disease. They were at rest in the sitting position; all measurements were made from the end-expiratory relaxation volume. The value for their mean compliance was 0.093 ± 0.030 L./cm.

Pulmonary compliance measurement in acute respiratory failure
Critical Care Medicine, 1985Many automatic devices to measure effective compliance can now be incorporated in mechanical ventilators. We compared measurements from these devices against those obtained from a pressure-volume curve made with a super-syringe. The methods produced closely correlating results (r = 0.854; p less than .001) in 20 adult patients with acute respiratory ...

To catch progressive pulmonary alterations, whose speed of variation is unknown, an instantaneous and continuous display of compliance and resistance might be useful. The Auprem gives a permanent digital read out of elastance (inverse of compliance) and of resistance.

Pulmonary interstitial compliance and microvascular filtration coefficient
American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology, 1980Static and dynamic properties governing the fluid movement into the pulmonary interstitium were examined in isolated canine lobes. The system was driven by altering intravascular presure (Piv) when the lobe was isogravimetric (change in weight (W) = 0) and allowing the lobe to become isogravimetric again.
