Relationship of bronchitis and emphysema to altered pulmonary function.
American Review of Respiratory Disease, 2015The relationship between the pulmonary function measured during life and the extent of emphysema measured at autopsy was evaluated in 26 patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

The Pulmonary Matrix, Glycosaminoglycans and Pulmonary Emphysema
Connective Tissue Research, 1999This paper reviews recent evidence of the effect of intratracheal hyaluronan (HA) to limit the induction of experimental emphysema in hamsters. Experimental emphysema was induced by both neutrophil and pancreatic elastase instilled intratracheally. Emphysema was quantified anatomically by measurement of alveolar mean linear intercept.

Pulmonary hypertension in chronic pulmonary emphysema
The American Journal of Medicine, 1950Abstract 1.1. A significant elevation of pulmonary arterial diastolic pressure was found in twenty-four patients with chronic pulmonary emphysema. Systolic pressure was also elevated in the majority of these patients. Evidence is presented which indicates that pulmonary hypertension in emphysema is related to an increased vascular resistance in the ...

Vitamin C (VC) is a potent antioxidant and is essential for collagen synthesis. We investigated whether VC treatment prevents and cures smoke-induced emphysema in senescence marker protein-30 knockout (SMP30-KO) mice, which cannot synthesize VC.

Treatment of Chronic Pulmonary Emphysema
Postgraduate Medicine, 1966Objectives of treatment for emphysema are prevention and eradication of bronchial inflammation, alleviation of bronchial obstruction, breathing training, physical rehabilitation, and management of major complications. Good bronchial hygiene is stressed. Education of the patient is essential to effective therapy.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension and emphysema
British Journal of Diseases of the Chest, 1984Pulmonary artery pressures were estimated by an indirect method using echocardiography (Boyd et al. 1980), in a group of patients with chronic airflow obstruction, in order to investigate the degree of pulmonary hypertension in patients with emphysema. We found a positive correlation between the estimated pulmonary artery end diastolic pressure (PAEDP)
