Elucidating the molecular basis of a novel autosomal dominant fibrotic syndrome

open access: yes, 2009
Includes abstract.Includes bibliographical references (leaves 97-103).A novel fibrotic syndrome was recently reported in a South African family, characterised by poikiloderma, tendon contracture and progressive pulmonary fibrosis.

Pyroptosis-related signatures predict immune characteristics and prognosis in IPF

open access: yesHeliyon
The purpose of this work was to use integrated bioinformatics analysis to screen for pyroptosis-related genes (PRGs) and possible immunological phenotypes linked to the development and course of IPF.

Macrophage‐to‐Myofibroblast Transdifferentiation Contributes to Pulmonary Fibrosis via the MERTK‐SPP1‐SRC‐TKS5 Signaling Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
MERTK is upregulated in fibrotic macrophages and regulates the expression and activity of SRC and TKS5 through SPP1, mediating transdifferentiation of macrophages‐to‐myofibroblasts (MMT) and promoting pulmonary fibrosis. The figure was created with BioRender.com.

Right Ventricular Fibrosis: A Pathophysiological Factor in Pulmonary Hypertension?

open access: yes, 2019
The role of right ventricular (RV) fibrosis in pulmonary hypertension (PH) remains a subject of ongoing discussion. Alterations of the collagen network of the extracellular matrix may help prevent ventricular dilatation in the pressure-overloaded RV.

Plasma levels of chemokines decrease during elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor therapy in adults with cystic fibrosis

open access: yesHeliyon
Background: Cystic fibrosis (CF) is associated with dysregulated immune responses, exaggerated inflammation and chronic infection. CF transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) modulator therapies directly target the underlying protein defects and ...

Targeting ANGPTL3 and IL‐33/ST2 Ameliorates Diabetic Kidney Disease by Reducing Lipotoxicity, Alleviating Inflammation and Inhibiting Fibrosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Dual targeting of ANGPTL3 and IL‐33/ST2 attenuates diabetic kidney disease by reprogramming lipid–inflammatory crosstalk. This strategy reduces renal lipotoxicity, suppresses inflammatory activation, and limits fibrotic remodeling, thereby preserving kidney structure and function and highlighting a mechanism‐guided therapeutic approach for metabolic ...

The Thyroid Hormone Analog GC‐1 Mitigates Acute Lung Injury by Inhibiting M1 Macrophage Polarization

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Acute lung injury (ALI)/acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a life‐threatening condition with a high mortality rate of ≈40%. Thyroid hormones (THs) play crucial roles in maintaining homeostasis of the cellular microenvironment under stress. The

TRIM36 inhibits lung fibroblast activation and pulmonary fibrosis through the degradation of phospho-AKT1

open access: yesiScience
Summary: The ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) critically regulates protein stability and function. E3 ligase dysregulation plays a crucial role in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). TRIM36, a RING-finger E3 ligase with emerging tumor-suppressive roles

SIRT6‐Mediated Deacetylation of ATF3 Promotes Silica‐Induced Lung Fibrosis by Enhancing its Nuclear Import via Binding to Importin α

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
SIRT6‐mediated ATF3 acetylation drives MGARP transcription and mitochondrial dysfunction in macrophages, promoting macrophage senescence and pulmonary fibrosis. Mechanistically, HSP70/Importin α competitively binds to ATF3, modulating its nuclear translocation.

Psychosocial aspects for teenagers and young adults with cystic fibrosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Plan BCystic Fibrosis, or commonly called CF, has long been known as a childhood disease. Advances in medical technology have prolonged the lives of individuals living with CF.
