Among patients referred for allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation with pulmonary opacities, lung biopsy provided a diagnosis in 72% of procedures and altered management in 51%. Despite a 7% major complication rate, lung biopsy frequently clarified noninfectious etiologies when bronchoscopy was inconclusive.

Cytomegalovirus pneumonia with pulmonary mucormycosis
Solid organ transplantation is becoming increasingly common in the treatment of end-stage organ failure. However, despite improvements in patient and allograft survival, immunosuppression-induced compromised cell-mediated immunity predisposes transplant recipients to opportunistic infections.

Pulmonary Mucormycosis Treated With Lobectomy [PDF]
A 57 year old man was referred from an outside facility for an unresolving pneumonia. Imaging of the chest demonstrated a right lung mass with a consolidation in the middle lobe, pleural effusion, and mediastinal lymphadenopathy. Cytologic examination of cultures from the bronchoscopy and thoracentesis did not yield a definitive diagnosis.

Pulmonary Mucormycosis with Diabetes Mellitus: A Case Report

Diagnosis of Mucormycosis: Current Situation, Challenges and Future Prospects
ABSTRACT Mucormycosis, an aggressive fungal infection caused by members of the order Mucorales, progresses rapidly and is associated with high mortality, particularly in immunocompromised hosts such as patients with uncontrolled diabetes, transplant recipients or those with COVID‐19‐associated immunosuppression. Early diagnosis remains challenging with

ABSTRACT Infections caused by Syncephalastrum species in humans are relatively rare. However, clinicians must maintain a high suspicion for it in immunocompromised patients with cutaneous mucormycosis. Prompt histopathological and microbiological investigations, combined with timely antifungal therapy and surgical intervention, are crucial to prevent ...
