First report of a Buchananella hordeovulneris–associated pyothorax in a feline leukaemia virus‐positive cat

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 2, May 2026.
Abstract A 10‐month‐old, neutered, male domestic shorthair cat with outdoor access was presented with a thoracic wound, severe respiratory distress, cachexia, dehydration and pleural effusion. Imaging confirmed bilateral pyothorax. Haematology showed marked neutrophilia with left shift, mild anaemia, thrombocytopenia and lymphocytosis.

Lung Biopsies in Patients Referred for Allogeneic Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation: Diagnostic Accuracy, Diagnostic Yield, and Clinical Utility

open access: yesTransplant Infectious Disease, Volume 28, Issue 3, May/June 2026.
Among patients referred for allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation with pulmonary opacities, lung biopsy provided a diagnosis in 72% of procedures and altered management in 51%. Despite a 7% major complication rate, lung biopsy frequently clarified noninfectious etiologies when bronchoscopy was inconclusive.

Endogenous ocular nocardiosis

open access: yes, 2021
Nocardiosis is an extremely rare, opportunistic, Gram-positive bacterial infection that has a high mortality rate in those patients who are immunocompromised in the presence of disseminated disease. We describe a case of an elderly lady being treated with

Arbor Accidents and Asteroids

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Nocardia infection should be considered in immunocompromised patients presenting with concurrent pulmonary and neurological symptoms. Species identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing are crucial. Co‐trimoxazole is the first‐line treatment.

NCY‐1 β‐Lactamase Activity Correlates With Antimicrobial Susceptibility of a Clinical Strain of Nocardia cyriacigeorgica

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 2, April 2026.
This study shows a strong correlation between the β‐lactam susceptibility profile of a clinical isolate of Nocardia cyriacigeorgica and the activity of its β‐lactamase, NCY‐1. Inhibitors of NCY‐1 reduce the minimum inhibitory concentration of amoxicillin.

Comparison of clinical outcomes of pulmonary nocardiosis between AIDS and non-AIDS patients

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases
Background Nocardia species can affect both immunocompetent and immunocompromised people. Method This retrospective study, from 2009 to 2022, aims to compare the survival analyses of pulmonary nocardiosis in AIDS and non-AIDS patients in northeastern ...

Endobronchial Enigma: A Clinically Rare Presentation of Nocardia beijingensis in an Immunocompetent Patient

open access: yesCase Reports in Pulmonology, 2015
Nocardiosis is an opportunistic infection caused by the Gram-positive weakly acid-fast, filamentous aerobic Actinomycetes. The lungs are the primary site of infection mainly affecting immunocompromised patients. In rare circumstances even immunocompetent

Rapid Serological Detection of Anti‐GM‐CSF Autoantibodies in Autoimmune Pulmonary Alveolar Proteinosis Using a Novel Immunochromatographic Test

open access: yesRespirology, Volume 31, Issue 2, Page 184-192, February 2026.
We developed a novel ICT with high clinical performance that can distinguish APAP patients from those with other pulmonary diseases. The rapid and simple detection of GMAbs in serum provided a new practical method for the diagnosis of APAP. See related editorial ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Anti‐GM‐CSF autoantibodies (GMAbs) are essential ...

A fatal case of pulmonary nocardiosis [PDF]

open access: yesBMJ Case Reports, 2012
Pulmonary nocardiosis is a serious, most often considered an opportunistic infection affecting the respiratory tract. Even though it is more common in immunocompromised hosts, it is not infrequently seen in immunocompetent patients as well. The aerosol route is the main portal of entry in to the body.
