Background Nocardiosis disproportionately affects immunocompromised hosts. Early identification of Nocardia infections is critical as delays can lead to worse outcomes. Species such as N. farcinica are associated with increased risk of dissemination and resistance. Diagnosis of opportunistic infections in immunocompromised populations relies on culture,

Pulmonary nocardiosis revisited: A case series
Pulmonary nocardiosis is a rising bacterial infection, with a high propensity for misdiagnosis. On account of a paucity of prospective studies, there is limited understanding on various aspects of its diagnosis and treatment.

The Incidence of Nocardiosis at Pulmonary and Extra – Pulmonary Sites [PDF]
Nocardiosis is a rare but well-established opportunistic infection. We are presenting two cases of Nocardiosis diagnosed in the microbiology laboratory, one in an immuno-competent elderly patient and the other in a immunocompromised patient with AIDS.

Nocardiosis is a rare bacterial infection caused by a wide array of species of the genus Nocardia. These microbes are found ubiquitously in soil and cause infection mainly when immunocompromised hosts inhale these bacteria or from direct inoculation through breaks in the skin. Once infection is established, Nocardia spp.

Background Pulmonary nocardiosis is uncommon and usually affects immunocompromised hosts, but it can occur in immunocompetent patients and mimic primary lung malignancy clinically and radiographically. Case Presentation A 52‐year‐old immunocompetent woman presented with one month of cough, hemoptysis, and mild shortness of breath after repeated hiking ...

Anti‐granulocyte macrophage colony stimulating factor (anti‐GM‐CSF) antibodies, classically associated with pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP), are increasingly recognised as a cause of adult‐onset immunodeficiency predisposing to opportunistic infections. Coinfections with multiple opportunistic pathogens in this context are uncommon.

An Unusual Case of Cutaneous Nocardia cyriacigeorgica Infection Assuming the Appearance of Shingles
Nocardia is an opportunistic organism that commonly infects the lungs of the immunocompromised and can cause disseminated infections. Diagnosis of Nocardia cyriacigeorgica is through culture and susceptibilities, aided by 16S rRNA sequencing. We report a case of a shingles‐like rash eruption due to Nocardia cyriacigeorgica in a 69‐year‐old patient with

Dimorphic fungal infection presenting as dysphagia in a dog
Abstract A 3‐year‐old, female, spayed dalmatian was evaluated for a 1‐month history of dysphagia. It exhibited repeated hard swallowing with apparent pain and anxiety after eating, as well as infrequent episodes of regurgitation that were alleviated by adding water to kibble.
