Mitochondrial physiology in cardiac muscle of deer mice native to high altitude
Abstract figure legend High‐altitude deer mice exhibited evolved changes in mitochondrial energy metabolism and reactive oxygen species (ROS) management that may support cardiac performance under cold hypoxic conditions. High‐altitude mice had increased activity of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in the heart, probably enhancing the capacity for lactate ...

Gas exchange and pulmonary stress variations during SCUBA and breath‐hold diving in open seawater
Abstract figure legend Healthy, trained divers were studied before, during and after diving in open seawater with different techniques. SCUBA divers (diving to 15 or 40 m with air; cycling at depth) and breath‐hold divers (BHDs; sled‐assisted dives to 15, 25 or 40 m) underwent underwater and surface arterial blood gas (ABG) sampling.

Abstract figure legend Regulatory mechanisms such as alternative splicing, post‐translational modification, membrane trafficking, and protein interactions control channel gating, membrane abundance, and overall activity of PIEZO2. Proper regulation supports PIEZO2‐dependent proprioceptive, somatosensory, nociceptive, pruriceptive and interoceptive ...

Structure‐driven immature cotton nanocomposite fibers for ESKAPE pathogen control
Abstract Transforming underutilized, low‐quality immature cotton fibers into functional materials provides a sustainable strategy for enhancing economic value. In this study, the intrinsic structural features of immature cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) fibers—typically considered as defects in textile processing—were exploited for the in situ synthesis ...

ABSTRACT Background A causal association between occupational asbestos exposure and lung disease, including pneumoconiosis and mesothelioma, is well established. Elevated mortality among former asbestos miners is expected. However, large‐scale South African studies examining all‐cause mortality in this population are lacking.

Thinned apple polyphenols (TAP) extract reduced ferroptosis in acute and chronic lung injuries. TAP activated Nrf2 and modulated key biomarkers (MDA, NOX4, GPX4, FTH1), leading to decreased inflammation and fibrosis. These findings suggest TAP as a potential therapeutic approach for lung injury through ferroptosis regulation. ABSTRACT Acute and chronic
