MYCOPHENOLATE MOFETIL TREATMENT REDUCES THE RISK OF TREATMENT ESCALATION DUE TO VASCULAR COMPLICATIONS IN LIMITED CUTANEOUS SYSTEMIC SCLEROSIS: EMULATION OF A TARGET TRIAL FROM ITALIAN RHEUMATOLOGY SOCIETY SPRING REGISTRY

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective Mycophenolate Mofetil (MMF) use in limited cutaneous systemic sclerosis (lcSSc) is relatively uncommon due to the lower fibrotic burden and the predominance of the vascular complications. In vitro observations and clinical data from transplanted patients suggest a protective effect of MMF on endothelial function.

Impact of Stress Hyperglycemia Ratio on Adverse Outcomes in Patients With Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension

open access: yesClinical and Translational Science
Prognostic assessment of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) remains challenging. Stress hyperglycemia, a condition where glucose metabolism is regulated during stress, has been regarded as an indicator of acute hyperglycemia.

Marked Long‐term Improvement in Lung Function in Melanoma Differentiation‐associated Protein 5 (MDA5) Antibody Positive Dermatomyositis Patients: Experience of a Single Center Longitudinal Cohort in North America

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective The objective of this study was to describe the longitudinal disease course and pulmonary outcomes of North American patients with melanoma differentiation‐associated gene 5 antibody (MDA5 ab) associated dermatomyositis (DM). Methods Thirty patients with MDA5 ab DM were identified in a single center longitudinal cohort of 352 patients with ...

Pulmonary Vascular Disease

open access: yesRadiologic Clinics of North America
Abstract Familiarity with the CT features of pulmonary vascular disease, including pulmonary embolism and pulmonary hypertension, is essential to ensure diagnostic accuracy. Acute and chronic pulmonary emboli have characteristic imaging findings; however, the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism can be challenging due to the high prevalence of ...

Tumor biomarkers in evaluating the severity and prognosis of idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension: A comprehensive analysis

open access: yesClinical and Translational Science
Inflammation contributes to development of idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH), and tumor biomarkers can reflect inflammatory and immune status. We aimed to determine the value of tumor biomarkers in IPAH comprehensively.

Smart, Bio‐Inspired Polymers and Bio‐Based Molecules Modified by Zwitterionic Motifs to Design Next‐Generation Materials for Medical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐based and (semi‐)synthetic zwitterion‐modified novel materials and fully synthetic next‐generation alternatives show the importance of material design for different biomedical applications. The zwitterionic character affects the physiochemical behavior of the material and deepens the understanding of chemical interaction mechanisms within the ...

Effects of malnutrition on disease severity and adverse outcomes in idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension: a retrospective cohort study

open access: yesRespiratory Research
Background Malnutrition is common in patients with chronic cardiovascular disease and is associated with significantly higher all-cause mortality. Approximately one-third of patients with heart failure are malnourished.

Clinical and prognostic significance of various anemia types in pulmonary arterial hypertension

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine
IntroductionCurrent risk models for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) omit anemia, although it may aggravate symptoms and haemodynamics. We assessed whether anemia and its subtypes add prognostic value.MethodsThis study included patients with ...

A Vascular Microphysiological Model of Lung Fibrosis Reveals That Myofibroblasts and IPF Patient‐Derived Fibroblasts Impair Angiogenesis and Vasculogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A microphysiological lung fibrosis model recapitulates myofibroblast–vascular interactions. Induced myofibroblasts and patient‐derived IPF fibroblasts impair angiogenesis and increase vascular permeability via TGF‐β1–driven signaling. Pharmacological interventions with SB 431542 and VEGF supplementation restore vascular morphology and barrier function.
