Impact of the pulmonary venous entry site morphology on postoperative pulmonary vein stenosis in total anomalous pulmonary venous connection patients

open access: yesJournal of the Formosan Medical Association
Background: To evaluate the association between the pulmonary vein (PV) entry site morphology after total anomalous pulmonary vein repair (TAPVC) and postoperative pulmonary vein stenosis (PVS). Methods: Computed tomography (CT) examination was performed

Phenotype characterization of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction in medical device and surgical trials

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
This systematic review identified 24 clinical trials of medical device and surgical interventions for HFpEF, with 16 demonstrating at least safety and feasibility, but little evidence of long‐term benefit. Phenotype‐based responses suggest that certain interventions may benefit specific HFpEF subgroups, yet most trials suffered from heterogeneous ...

Atypical perioperative management for duodenal obstruction in an infant with heterotaxy syndrome: a case report

open access: yesJA Clinical Reports, 2018
Background Heterotaxy syndrome (HS) is characterized by a wide variety of cardiac and extra-cardiac malformations, including pulmonary valve stenosis, interruption of the inferior vena cava, total anomalous pulmonary venous connection (TAPVC), asplenia ...

SGLT2 inhibitors for the prevention and treatment of heart failure: A scientific statement of the HFA and the HFAI

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Abstract In the 2021 European Society of Cardiology (ESC) heart failure (HF) guidelines, sodium–glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors were recommended for the prevention of HF in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and for the treatment of HF with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF).

First evaluation of a novel pulsatile LVAD: Feasibility and haemodynamic impact in acute heart failure

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
The pulsatile ventricular assist platform (pVAP) was connected to a membrane pump in six large swine models. The system, driven by a conventional intra‐aortic balloon pump console (IABP), was utilized to drain left atrial blood during systole and to eject the collected blood back into the ascending aorta during diastole.

Late onset cardiac cirrhosis and portal hypertensive ascites after atrial fibrillation ablation

open access: yesPulmonary Circulation, 2018
Pulmonary vein stenosis is a potential complication following catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF). We report the case of a patient with refractory ascites late after multiple catheter ablation procedures for AF. This is the first case report of

Employment of artificial intelligence for an unbiased evaluation regarding the recovery of right ventricular function after mitral valve transcatheter edge‐to‐edge repair

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Impact of mitral transcatheter edge‐to‐edge repair (M‐TEER) on left and right heart function. IQR, interquartile range; LA, left atrial; RVEF, right ventricular ejection fraction; sPAP, systolic pulmonary artery pressure; TAPSE, tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion. Abstract Aims Long‐standing severe mitral regurgitation (MR) leads to left atrial

Periodontitis and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease: A critical appraisal

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract In spite of intensive research efforts driving spectacular advances in terms of prevention and treatments, cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain a leading health burden, accounting for 32% of all deaths (World Health Organization. “Cardiovascular Diseases (CVDs).” WHO, February 1, 2017, https://www.who.int/news‐room/fact‐sheets/detail ...
