Incidence and predictors of premature ventricular complexes following catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
BACKGROUND: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia, and previous studies have focused on the epidemiology, mechanisms and risk factors for this global disease (Ryder and Benjamin 1999). Various studies have examined the mechanism,

CardiacNET: Segmentation of Left Atrium and Proximal Pulmonary Veins from MRI Using Multi-View CNN

open access: yes, 2017
Anatomical and biophysical modeling of left atrium (LA) and proximal pulmonary veins (PPVs) is important for clinical management of several cardiac diseases.

Engineering Approaches to Modify Immunomodulatory Functions of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells (MSCs): Tissue Regeneration and Clinical Application

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) show promise for treating immune‐related disorders through immunomodulation and tissue regeneration. This review gives a brief overview of current clinical approval of MSC therapies. It also discussed how bioengineering, including genetic modification, biomaterial delivery, extracellular vesicles, and iPSC‐derived MSCs,

Minimally Invasive Mapping Guided Surgical Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation. Utopia or Near Future?

open access: yesIndian Pacing and Electrophysiology Journal, 2006
Isolation of the pulmonary veins has been used as surgical treatment for atrial fibrillation (AF) from the early 90s, as it was incorporated in the Maze procedure.

Emerging Role of Renal Sympathetic Denervation as an Adjunct Therapy to Atrial Fibrillation Ablation

open access: yesReviews in Cardiovascular Medicine
The central anatomical locus in the context of atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation has been the pulmonary veins. Despite the attainment of a modest long-term success rate through pulmonary vein isolation (PVI), the pursuit of achieving a therapeutic ...

Description, validation, and modification of the Guyton model for space-flight applications. Part A. Guyton model of circulatory, fluid and electrolyte control. Part B. Modification of the Guyton model for circulatory, fluid and electrolyte control [PDF]

open access: yes
The mathematical model that has been a cornerstone for the systems analysis of space-flight physiological studies is the Guyton model describing circulatory, fluid and electrolyte regulation.

Idiopathic bilateral pulmonary vein thrombosis

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Case Reports in Internal Medicine
A 52-year-old female with a history of chronic lymphoedema and untreated deep vein thrombosis, presented with non-specific right-sided chest pain. A CT angiogram confirmed bilateral inferior pulmonary vein thromboses (PVT). A comprehensive hypercoagulable workup and age-appropriate cancer screening were unremarkable; the lack of associated risk factors

Detachment‐Induced FAK‐STAT3‐NNMT Inhibits CTCs Anoikis to Promote Breast Cancer Metastasis by Enhancing Fatty Acid Oxidation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The FAK‐STAT3‐NNMT axis drives anoikis resistance in circulating tumor cells by reprogramming fatty acid oxidation. Targeting this metabolic vulnerability suppresses metastasis, untangling a key mechanism of breast cancer progression and revealing NNMT as a promising therapeutic target.

Semiconducting Polymer Nanoparticles Enable Light‐Controlled Bidirectional Modulation of Nitric Oxide in Endothelial Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Bimodal modulation of nitric oxide in endothelial cells is achieved by light‐sensitive polymer nanoparticles. In dark, P3HT/PEDOT:PSS NPs boost intracellular ·NO, upregulate both endothelial and induced nitric oxide synthase, and drive a metabolic shift toward glycolysis.

Tracking of [14C]Polystyrene Nanoplastics in Pregnant Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study investigates [14C]polystyrene nanoplastic ([14C]PS) translocation in late‐stage pregnant mice after intranasal (0.5 mg of [14C]PS on GD12, GD14, and GD16, n = 6) and intravenous administration (1.5 mg of [14C]PS on GD16, n = 6). 14C‐radiolabel allows quantitative tracking of unmodified polystyrene nanoplastics.
