Cardiovascular function and ballistocardiogram: a relationship interpreted via mathematical modeling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Objective: to develop quantitative methods for the clinical interpretation of the ballistocardiogram (BCG). Methods: a closed-loop mathematical model of the cardiovascular system is proposed to theoretically simulate the mechanisms generating the BCG ...

Pulmonary intravascular blood volume changes through the cardiac cycle in healthy volunteers studied by cardiovascular magnetic resonance measurements of arterial and venous flow

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, 2009
Background This study aims to present a novel method for using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) to non-invasively quantify the variation in pulmonary blood volume throughout the cardiac cycle in humans.

Geometric analysis on the unidirectionality of the pulmonary veins for atrial reentry [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
It is widely believed that the pulmonary veins (PVs) of the atrium play the central role in the generation of atrial reentry leading to atrial fibrillation, but its mechanism has not been analytically explained. In order to improve the current clinical procedures for atrial reentry by understanding its mechanism, geometrical analysis is proposed on the

3 year old with chronic wet cough : Intralobar Bronchopulmonary sequestration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Bronchopulmonary sequestration (BPS) is a rare congenital foregut anomaly of the lung, consisting of nonfunctioning primitive tissue that does not communicate with the healthy tracheobronchial tree.

Use of IT tools to search for a correlation between weather factors and onset of pulmonary thromboembolism [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Pulmonary embolism (PE) and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) are gathered in venous thromboembolism (VTE) and represent the third cause of cardiovascular diseases. Recent studies suggest that meteorological parameters as atmospheric pressure, temperature, and humidity could affect PE incidence but, nowadays, the relationship between these two phenomena is ...

Cor triatriatum sinister with situs inversus totalis in an infant. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Cor triatriatum sinister is a rare congenital cardiac malformation characterized by a membrane in the left atrium which separates the left atrium into the proximal and distal chambers.Association of cor triatriatum is extremely rare with situs inversus

Role of MDCT in evaluation of congenital and acquired anomalies of pulmonary venous drainage

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, 2018
Objective: This work aimed for detection of different congenital and acquired abnormalities affecting the pulmonary veins using multislice computed tomography (MSCT). Patients and methods: This study was carried on 74 patients.

Pulmonary venous abnormalities encountered on pre-radiofrequency ablation mapping multidetector computed tomography

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Radiology, 2017
Multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) elegantly renders pulmonary venous anatomy. With increasing numbers of radiofrequency ablation procedures being performed, there is now a greater emphasis on pre-procedure imaging to delineate this anatomy ...

Automated segmentation of the pulmonary arteries in low-dose CT by vessel tracking [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
We present a fully automated method for top-down segmentation of the pulmonary arterial tree in low-dose thoracic CT images. The main basal pulmonary arteries are identified near the lung hilum by searching for candidate vessels adjacent to known airways, identified by our previously reported airway segmentation method.

Unusual echocardiographic finding leading to diagnosis of pulmonary sequestration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Pulmonary sequestration is an embryonic mass of non- functioning lung tissue that does not communicate with the tracheobronchial tree and has a reported incidence of 0.15%-6.4% of all the pulmonary malformations.
