Pulp exposure management

Clinical Dentistry Reviewed, 2019
The maintenance of healthy pulp tissue and the prevention of apical periodontitis form the basis of minimally invasive dentistry. Although, the dental pulp exhibits an array of strategies to protect itself against irritation, the conservative management of the exposed pulp has traditionally been unpredictable.

Healing of pulp exposures: an ultrastructural study

Journal of Oral Pathology & Medicine, 1991
The fine structure of tissue changes during the first 14 days following pulp exposure and capping with a hard setting Ca(OH), cement has been studied. The early changes included hemorrhage and moderate inflammation which were largely resolved during the first week. During the second week differentiation of cells occurred at the wound surface.

Noise Exposures in Pulp and Paper Production

American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal, 1969
Abstract Machines employed in pulp and paper manufacturing produce high noise levels that are difficult to control. This paper presents data on noise levels both overall and in octave bands from 300 Hz through 2400 Hz in areas adjacent to such equipment with a discussion of control problems.

Pulp capping: influence of the exposure site on pulp healing-histologic and radiographic study in dogs' pulp

Journal of Endodontics, 1981
Pulps of dogs' teeth were exposed buccally and occlusally and capped with calcium hydroxide powder. On the 22nd and 120th postoperative days the teeth were examined histologically and radiographically. Calcium hydroxide powder stimulated pulp healing and calcified bridge formation as early as 22 days for both exposure groups.

Autoradiographic analysis of odontoblast replacement following pulp exposure in primate teeth [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Oral Biology, 1990
Cell migration and replication associated with odontoblast replacement occurring soon after pulp exposure in primate teeth were studied. Class 5 cavity preparations resulting in pulp exposures were restored with a calcium hydroxide-containing capping ...

Experimental exposure of hamster pulp

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1956
Abstract A method of pulp exposure and treatment has been described, using hamsters to overcome some of the difficulties and objections met with in this type of experiment. The results have been evaluated histologically, and the findings compared with those of others who used larger-animal and human subjects.

Treatment of crown fractures with pulp exposure

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology, and Endodontology, 1996
Thirty permanent incisors with vital pulps and complicated crown fractures were treated by a partial pulpotomy (Cvek technique). This consisted of amputation of 1 to 2 mm of the exposed pulp, placement of calcium hydroxide powder, and a temporary restoration.

The effect of blood clotting on hamster pulp exposures

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1957
Abstract Under conditions and with methods previously described, blood clot alone did not give satisfactory results in the treatment of the cut surface of the pulp. Instead, the histologic evidence indicated severe degenerative changes. The function of “inert” capping material is discussed.

Pulpal response to different pulp capping methods after pulp exposure by air abrasion

Journal of Clinical Pediatric Dentistry, 2002
Air abrasion is regaining popularity especially in the area of pediatric dentistry due to its ease of use and its advantages. Due to the lost of tactile information, while using this technique, there is an increased risk for pulpal exposure. On the other hand, Ca(OH)2 medicament has been proven to induce dentin bridge formation, but an adequate sealing
