Pulse distortion of a scattered chirped pulse

Applied Optics, 1997
We have studied the time-dependent properties of a chirped short pulse when the pulse is scattered by a spherical particle. We used generalized Lorentz-Mie formulas to study the scattered electrical field and pulse distortion. Plane wave Gaussian pulses of different chirps with a constant pulse-filling coefficient l(0) = 1.98 have been studied.

United-pulse

Proceedings of the 10th international conference on Human computer interaction with mobile devices and services, 2008
This paper introduces a device that creates remote intimacy by the use of two rings named "united-pulse". Each ring can measure the wearer's heartbeat and send it to the partner's ring. Hereby, artificial corporeality is created between the couple. By means of a working prototype, united-pulse has been successfully tested. Among the 28 participants the

Pulse in Pulse Intense Pulsed Light for Melasma Treatment: A Pilot Study

Dermatologic Surgery, 2014
A new type of intense pulsed light IPL with pulse-in-pulse (PIP) mode (multiple fractionated subpulses in one pulse width) has recently been developed. To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of PIP IPL in patients with melasma.Half of each patient's face was treated with IPL and six treatment sessions with a low-fluence quality-switched neodymium ...

Assessing spontaneous baroreflex in aged with pulse-pulse intervals and pulse amplitudes

2013 35th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBC), 2013
Cardiac autonomic dysfunction is a serious condition in the elder subjects. Baroreflex sensitivity (BRS) by measuring pulse intervals and blood pressure has been proven as an effective indicator. This paper proposes a novel index by substitution blood pressure with amplitudes of pressure pulse.

Cyclophosphamide: To pulse or not to pulse?

The American Journal of Medicine, 1990
(lthough daily low-dose (2 mg/kg) oral cyclophosphamide (CP) is effective in the treatment of corticosteroid-resistant vasculitic diseases [l-3], this regimen has a low therapeutic/toxic profile. Major toxicities associated with daily CP administration include neoplasm (acute myelogenous leukemia and bladder cancer), hemorrhagic cystitis, bladder ...

Cooperative pulses

Journal of Magnetic Resonance, 2010
We introduce the concept of cooperative (COOP) pulses which are designed to compensate each other's imperfections. In multi-scan experiments, COOP pulses can cancel undesired signal contributions, complementing and generalizing phase cycles. COOP pulses can be efficiently optimized using an extended version of the optimal-control-based gradient ascent ...

SUGAR IN PULSES

Canadian Journal of Biochemistry and Physiology, 1961
The occurrence of at least four non-reducing oligosaccharides has been observed in pulses. Three of the saccharides have been separated from resting seeds of green gram and have been characterized as raffinose, stachyose, and verbascose. A fairly similar pattern of composition of these sugars exists in a variety of pulses.

Pulse distortions in tilted pulse schemes for ultrashort pulses

Optics Communications, 1986
Abstract Analytical expressions are found for the propagation of the amplitude of tilted ultrashort pulses. The distortions arising are the pulse broadening, tilt angle decrease, chirp, frequency shift and spatial profile variation. Expressions for these quantities are found and it is shown that the mechanisms responsible for the distortions are the ...

Pulse oximetry

Pediatric Emergency Care, 1987
The pulse oximeter provides a noninvasive, continuous, and generally valid measure of SaO2. Armed with a basic understanding of its operating principles and limitations, and the proper interpretation of SaO2, the emergency physician will find the pulse oximeter to be a useful instrument for the detection of hypoxia in infants and children.
