Shaping EPR: Phase and amplitude modulated microwave pulses

Journal of Magnetic Resonance, 2019
The advent of fast arbitrary waveform generators in the sub-nanosecond time regime recently enabled new experimental developments in the field of pulsed EPR. In this article, the new possibilities of such fast phase/amplitude modulated microwave pulses are shortly described with respect to applications in pulsed dipolar spectroscopy.

Efficient design of waveforms for robust pulse amplitude modulation

IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 2001
A large and flexible set of computationally efficient algorithms is developed for the design of waveforms for pulse amplitude modulation that provide robust performance in the presence of uncertainties in the channel and noise models. Performance is measured either by a sensitivity function for threshold detection or by the mean square error of the ...

Optimum Pulse Shapes for Pulse-Amplitude Modulation Data Transmission Using Vestigial Sideband Modulation

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1975
When designing pulse-amplitude modulation (PAM) systems for use over band-pass channels having restricted bandwidth, one may be led to use single-sideband (SSB) or vestigial sideband (VSB) transmission in order to maxi-mize transmission rate. Carefully shaped pulses must be used to minimize degradation due to intersymbol interference (isi).

Detection of pulsed-amplitude and phase-modulated signals

Frontiers in Optics, 2003
We review the detection of pulsed optical data formats, focusing on on/off keying (OOK) and differential phase shift keying (DPSK). We point out the benefits of pulsed signal reception, and explain why balanced rather than single-ended detection should be used for DPSK.

Successes in Application of Pulse-Amplitude Modulated Fluorescence

2015
Fluorescence is used not only in studying the functions of molecules, as demonstrated by the example of photosynthetic reactions (see Chap. 1), but also for an assessment of changes in molecular structure as a consequence of protein interactions with other molecules (e.g., with other proteins or DNA) or the influence of damaging agents such as ...

Assessing Performance of Silicon Photonic Modulators for Pulse Amplitude Modulation

IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics, 2018
Silicon photonic (SiP) electro-optic modulators are a key component in cost-efficient and integrated optical transmitters. Modulator design traditionally uses figure of merits (FOMs) that characterize modulation efficiency and propagation loss of light, which underestimate the modulator-induced power penalty due to intersymbol interference, as they do ...

Amplitude and phase modulated pulse trains for radar

Radio and Electronic Engineer, 1971
The paper reviews the theory by which amplitude and phase modulated (a.m.ph.m.) pulse trains can be represented by complex number sequences and the means by which they can be generated and processed. The synthesis of pulse trains to have a desired autocorrelation function is described, some useful short Huffman sequences derived from Barker sequences ...
