Aortic Pulse Wave Velocity and Carotid-Femoral Pulse Wave Velocity: Similarities and Discrepancies [PDF]

open access: yesHypertension Research, 2007
The objectives of this study were to determine the relationship between carotid-femoral (cfPWV) and aortic pulse wave velocity (aPWV) and to compare their modulators and association with coronary artery disease (CAD). We studied 107 consecutive patients (68 men) with a mean age of 60.49+/-8.31 years who had stable angina and had been referred for ...

Pentagonal 2D Altermagnets: Material Screening and Altermagnetic Tunneling Junction Device Application

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
From a database of 170 pentagonal 2D materials, 4 candidates exhibiting altermagnetic ordering are screened. Furthermore, the spin‐splitting and unconventional boundary states in the pentagonal 2D altermagnetic monolayer MnS2 are investigated. A MnS2‐based altermagnetic tunneling junction is designed and, through ab initio quantum transport simulations,

Association between increased arterial stiffness and clinical outcomes in patients with early sepsis: a prospective observational cohort study

open access: yesIntensive Care Medicine Experimental, 2019
Background Conduit arteries, especially the aorta, play a major role in ensuring efficient cardiac function and optimal microvascular flow due to their viscoelastic properties.

Picosecond pulse generation from continuous-wave light in an integrated nonlinear Bragg grating

open access: yesNanophotonics, 2022
The generation of optical pulse trains from continuous-wave light has attracted growing attention in recent years because it provides a simple way to obtain high repetition rate ultrashort pulses.

Pump-probe detuning dependence of four-wave mixing pulse in an SOA [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Four-wave mixing (FWM) between 2-ps pulses in a multiquantum-well semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is presented. The conjugate pulses are fully characterized using the frequency-resolved optical gating technique.

Studies of the arterial pulse wave [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Chronic Diseases, 1956
Previous studies have shown abnormalities of the arterial pulse wave in hypertensive subjects of all age groups. The major change has been diminution to disappearance of the dicrotic wave. The pharmacologic differences between epinephrine and norepinephrine offer a means of studying the mechanism of this change in the dicrotic wave.

Micropatterned Biphasic Printed Electrodes for High‐Fidelity on‐Skin Bioelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Micropatterned biphasic printed electrodes achieve unprecedented skin conformity and low impedance by combining liquid‐metal droplets with microstructured 3D lattices. This scalable approach enables high‐fidelity detection of ECG, EMG, and EEG signals, including alpha rhythms from the forehead, with long‐term comfort and stability.

Distinct stick-slip modes in adhesive polymer interfaces

open access: yes, 2017
Stick-slip, manifest as intermittent tangential motion between two solids, is a well-known friction instability that occurs in a number of natural and engineering systems.

Spatiotemporal dispersion and wave envelopes with relativistic and pseudorelativistic characteristics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A generic nonparaxial model for pulse envelopes is presented. Classic Schro¨dinger-type descriptions of wave propagation have their origins in slowly-varying envelopes combined with a Galilean boost to the local time frame.
