The Pulsed Eddy Current Testing

2016
As one kind of eddy current testing technology, the pulsed eddy current testing technology is based on the principle of electromagnetic induction and is used to detect the defects in conductive materials. The principle of pulsed eddy current testing is basically the same as that of traditional eddy current testing, and differences are the means of ...

Massively Multiplexed Eddy Current Testing and its Comparison with Pulsed Eddy Current Testing

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2004
This compares the capabilities of the Pulsed Eddy Current technique with those of an Eddy Current instrument capable of multiplexing through 32 discrete frequencies. Pulsed Eddy Current testing has shown some definite advantages due to the application of an extended series of frequencies to a test piece and analysis using a time‐based display. The Eddy

Numerical simulation of pulsed eddy-current nondestructive testing phenomena

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1990
A general-purpose hybrid finite-element and finite-difference computational model developed for the prediction of pulsed eddy-current distribution in metals for nondestructive testing purposes is discussed. The numerical model uses an axisymmetric formulation to study coil configurations suspended over a metallic specimen.

Frequency-domain defect characterization in pulsed eddy current testing

International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics, 2014
Pulsed eddy current (PEC) testing has attracted researchers' interest because the pulsed excitation comprises a broad band of frequencies and the response signal provides more information about defect than traditional eddy current testing. Various features have been extracted from PEC signal for defect characterization.

Pulsed eddy currents testing using a planar matrix probe

Measurement, 2016
Abstract This paper presents a new planar matrix eddy currents probe intended for non-destructive testing. The proposed design is composed by multiple independent excitation traces and a matrix of independent sensing coils. Finite element modeling is used to highlight the probe operating principle and to preview its behavior in different measurement ...

Numerical calculation method for pulsed eddy-current testing

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2002
A numerical method is presented for the calculation of the time-dependent response of the interaction of a stratified plate specimen of linear conductor containing a planar flaw and an eddy-current induction coil fed by a current pulse. The flaw might be located on any sides of the layers of the plate specimen.

Pulsed Eddy Current Testing - Application to Defect Evaluation

2011
This article deals with the pulsed eddy current testing method as a new trend in electromagnetic nondestructive evaluation of conductive materials. Numerical simulations are carried out to study correlations between the driving and the response signals regarding the defect classification.

Simulation of pulsed eddy current testing via surrogate models

2014
Typical Pulsed Eddy Current Testing (PECT) signals, resulting from the inspection of canonical structures affected by flaw(s), consist in magnetic field variations above the conductor or in coil impedance change, both as functions of time. Calculation of specimen response to Time-Dependent (TD) excitation signals can be obtained through an inverse ...

Transient Electromagnetic Phenomena in Pulsed Eddy Current Testing

2009
In pulsed eddy current testing (ECT), much information can be obtained by a measurement. Understanding the electromagnetic phenomena in pulsed ECT is necessary for establishment of the design method of probe and the processing method of detected signal.

Pulsed Eddy Current Testing Based on Gradient Magnetic Field Measurement

2012 Sixth International Conference on Electromagnetic Field Problems and Applications, 2012
Gradient Magnetic Field Measurement (GMFM) has been intensively used in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). In this paper, we introduce GMFM to Pulsed Eddy Current Testing (PECT) in an effort to enhance the PECT sensitivity to subsurface anomalies in stratified conductors.
