Time-domain modeling analysis of pulsed eddy current testing on ferromagnetic casing

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2020
Pulsed eddy current has attracted increasing attention to ferromagnetic metal material evaluation since it possesses low power consumption and abundant frequency spectrum advantages. However, when a current source is applied to generate the pulse excitation signal in eddy current testing, the inductance of driver coil induces a large reverse ...

Pulsed Eddy-Current Testing of Steel Sheets

1981
This is a brief report on some early work on the testing of steel sheets using pulsed eddy currents. Penetration up to about 10 mm has been achieved and some artificial defects have been observed. Longer pulses are to be employed for deeper penetration, and more work done on the observation of defects. Some theoretical work is also reported.

Pulsed eddy current nondestructive testing

2003
There is an intensive research of pulsed eddy current as a new nondestruc-tive technique. Broadband nature of pulsed excitation potentially enables ex-traction of more information about tested object in a single measurement. Furthermore, lower power consumption of the measurement probe and shorter inspection time can be achieved comparing to the ...

Finite element modelling of pulsed eddy currents for nondestructive testing

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1996
The pulsed eddy current technique is widely used to detect flaws in conducting plates. Time transient data from the system can be used to produce a frequency response which enables a user to detect the presence of defects. This paper is concerned with modeling this technique using 3D finite elements. Data from the time transient finite element model is

Design of Reflection Type Pulsed Eddy Current Nondestructive Testing

2008
Reflection type shielded send-receive probe is designed for accurate measurement of specimen thickness by pulsed eddy current testing and when evaluating material conductivity, effects of pulse width on the signal are investigated. Results show that the best sensitivity to thickness is achieved when ferrite shields for both coils are used and when the ...

Pulsed Eddy Current Technique for Testing of Stainless Steel Plates

2014
Pulsed eddy current (PEC) technique is attractive for detection of surface defects and wall-thinning in covered electrically conductive materials. This paper discusses development of PEC technique and two different types of self-nulling probes (differential Hall sensors and Double-D differential coils) for detection of surface notches in a thick ...

Pulsed eddy current testing of ferromagnetic specimen based on variable pulse width excitation

NDT & E International, 2015
Abstract Pulsed eddy current testing (PECT) is a rapidly developing technology which has wide potential applications. For the PECT system which uses detection coils, a no-reference-needed and more efficient method, for quantifying the wall thickness of the ferromagnetic specimen, should be found.

Real-Time Tunnel-Magnetoresistive-Based Pulsed Eddy Current Testing With Deep Learning

IEEE Sensors Journal
Pulsed eddy current (PEC) testing is a non-destructive testing (NDT) technique that is widely used in the industry. The ability to detect corrosion in metal materials is crucial for ensuring safety and mitigating potential hazards. This article provides a solution from hardware to software to show the ability of deep learning (DL) method to process PEC
