Pulsed Eddy-Current Nondestructive Testing of Ferromagnetic Tubes

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2004
In sinusoidal eddy current nondestructive testing (NDT) of thick ferromagnetic tubes, wall thickness is measured with the coils displaced for 2-3 tube diameters (remote field eddy current technique). The tube inner diameter is measured at higher frequency with another pair of coils displaced for around 1 tube diameter (electrical caliper).

Pulsed Eddy Current Thermography and Applications

2011
In this paper we report on the application of the pulsed eddy current thermography inspection technique to the detection and quantification of defects in a variety of materials. After introducing the appropriate modelling and simulation techniques an overview of a typical PEC thermography system setup is provided.

Transient Eddy Current Analysis of Pulsed Eddy Current Testing by Finite Element Method

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2004
Transient eddy current analysis of pulsed eddy current testing was performed by time-stepping method and Fourier transform method. The characteristics of two methods were evaluated by using a simple model. The accuracy was examined by the comparison of calculated and measured data.

The Pulsed Eddy Current Testing

2016
As one kind of eddy current testing technology, the pulsed eddy current testing technology is based on the principle of electromagnetic induction and is used to detect the defects in conductive materials. The principle of pulsed eddy current testing is basically the same as that of traditional eddy current testing, and differences are the means of ...

Pulsed Eddy Current Method: an Overview

1999
As the name implies, the pulsed eddy current (PEC) method uses a transient excitation of an eddy current probe, as opposed to the continuous-wave (CW) excitation used in conventional eddy current inspection. The PEC approach offers several advantages over the conventional method.

Transient eddy current analysis for a spiral gradient pulse

Journal of Magnetic Resonance, 2023
Eddy currents are induced in the metallic structures of MRI machines due to the rapid switching of gradient fields generated by gradient coils. Several undesirable effects are associated with the induced eddy currents such as heat, acoustic noise, and MR image distortions.

Pulsed eddy current thermography for corrosion characterisation

International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics, 2012
Corrosion characterisation on metal substrates is a major problem in the field of corrosion science and Non-destructive Evaluation (NDE). In this work, the electromagnetic NDE method, Pulsed Eddy Current (PEC) Thermography, has been applied to evaluate the corrosion on the mild steel plates.

Local eddy current measurements in pulsed fields

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2008
Abstract This work presents new eddy current measurements in pulsed fields. A commercial point pick-up coil is used to detect the induction signal along the radius of Cu and Al samples with cylindrical shape and diameters between 5 and 35 mm. Local eddy current measurements were performed on the surface of conducting materials due to the small ...

Pulse Eddy Current Testing Thin Metal Thickness

2018 5th International Conference on Information Science and Control Engineering (ICISCE), 2018
The pulsed eddy current testing is commonly method that used for the detection of metal thickness. This paper takes the thin aluminum plate as the research object, uses Ansoft finite element simulation software, and uses the square wave pulse to stimulate the aluminum plate with different thickness to carry on the examination. It is found that the time-

Massively Multiplexed Eddy Current Testing and its Comparison with Pulsed Eddy Current Testing

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2004
This compares the capabilities of the Pulsed Eddy Current technique with those of an Eddy Current instrument capable of multiplexing through 32 discrete frequencies. Pulsed Eddy Current testing has shown some definite advantages due to the application of an extended series of frequencies to a test piece and analysis using a time‐based display. The Eddy
