Abstract We analyzed 80 mitogenomes of the elusive jaguarundi (Puma yagouaroundi, Felidae, Carnivora), representing seven of the eight putative morphological subspecies traditionally described. The mitochondrial genetic diversity levels were very high in this cat species and therefore similar to other Neotropical cats.

Noteworthy record of Puma yagouaroundi’s elevational distribution
Therya Notes, 2023Despite the wide distribution of the jaguarundi (Puma yagouaroundi) in America, it is considered a rare and elusive species from which little is known throughout its distributional range. Its altitudinal distribution ranges from sea level to around 3,200 m, but it generally occurs below 500 m.

Veterinary Parasitology: Regional Studies and Reports, 2023
Parasites of the Cylicospirura genus are known to affect domestic and wild carnivores by causing the formation of nodules within the gastric mucosa and pyloric region of parasitized animals. C. felineus is a specimen of this genus that has been reported in Brazil in animal species such as Leopardus geoffroyi and Puma concolor.

Despite its legal protection, the jaguarundi's (Puma yagouaroundi) status in the United States is currently unknown. Historical accounts indicate jaguarundis previously occupied habitats in extreme southern Texas. Although sightings continue to occur in the United States, none have been confirmed, and it is unclear if jaguarundis are still resident ...

Therya Notes
To date, there have been few studies on the dietary composition of the jaguarundi (Puma yagouaroundi). Previous studies mention that reptiles constitute a relatively minor component of the jaguarundi's diet, and in the majority of cases they are only identified to the family level due to the high degree of degradation of the remains observed in faeces
