Abstract There is a strong gap flow exists between the pump rotor tip and the inside of the duct of the pump jet propulsor. To predict the hydrodynamic performance of a pump jet propulsor more accurately, considering the influence of fluid viscosity in the gap area, a gap flow model suitable for a pump jet propulsor is proposed.

Numerical investigation of the scale effects of pump-jet propulsor with a pre-swirl stator [PDF]
In this study, the performance of a pump-jet propulsor (PJP) with pre-swirl stator in open water is numerically investigated. Both full-scale and model-scale configurations are considered. The Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations and shear stress transport k−ω turbulence model are used in the numerical calculation.

Abstract The generally adopted strategy to investigate the flow on a pump-jet propulsor (PJP) is in model scale, but the flow is often overestimated as full turbulence in numerical prediction. The effects of transition modeling on the flow around PJP are unknown, which is a potential cause of the obvious deviations of numerical results to ...

Analysis of influence of duct geometrical parameters on pump jet propulsor hydrodynamic performance
Journal of Marine Science and Technology, 2019To analyze the influence of duct geometrical parameters on hydrodynamic performance of pump jet propulsor, this paper presents a surface panel method for predicting performance of pump jet propulsor. And, moreover, a meshing method for blade, based on circular conical surface, is proposed.

Investigation on the Propulsion of a Pump-Jet Propulsor in an Effective Wake
Journal of Fluids Engineering, 2022Abstract The propulsion and vortical flow of a preswirl pump-jet propulsor (PJP) under effective wake conditions are numerically investigated by improved delayed detached eddy simulation. The numerical results agree well with the experiments.
