Symposium on Pumped Storage: Foreign Pumped Storage Projects

Journal of the Power Division, 1962
The great interest in pumped storage power in the United States suggests an examination of the well developed and highly diversified pumped storage technology that has emerged abroad since 1910. Eight-four foreign pumped storage developments are either built or being built as of 1912, and new and larger developments are being planned.

Symposium on Pumped Storage: American Pumped Storage Equipment and Operation

Journal of the Power Division, 1962
The applications of pumped-storage hydroelectric power in North America, with particular regard to reversible pump-turbines, is described. Problems in starting and operation are described and information necessary for making the proper selection of capacity and speed is given.

Pumped hydropower energy storage

2023
This chapter presents an overview of the fundamentals of pumped hydropower storage (PHS) systems, a history of the development of the technology, various possible configurations of the systems, and an overview of the current status of these systems. The chapter also presents the energy and exergy models of PHS systems for their use in thermodynamic ...

Cryosorption pumping for intersecting storage rings

Journal of Vacuum Science and Technology, 1974
The pumps selected for storage ring vacuum systems must efficiently pump helium and hydrogen at pressures below 10−10 Torr. In addition, they have to work in a background of nuclear radiation. The presence of an ample supply of liquid helium in the proposed Intersecting Storage Accelerator (ISABELLE) makes cryosorption pumping very attractive.

Reservoirs for pumped storage

Quarterly Journal of Engineering Geology, 1971
Pumped storage projects involve major civil engineering works costing tens of millions of pounds but are nevertheless an efficient way of storing energy and economically a better method of meeting peak loads than building bigger generating stations. Because they require special environments, reservoirs for pumped storage raise difficult problems in ...

Foyers Pumped Storage Scheme

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1979
The Foyers Pumped Storage Project, commissioned in 1974, is the third major pumped storage scheme in the United Kingdom (UK), the second using reversible pump turbines and the first using shaft-type station construction. The paper briefly describes the station layout and plant and the various modes of operation and outlines the pump starting methods ...

Pumped hydro storage

1994
Pumped hydro storage is the only large energy storage technique widely used in power systems. For decades, utilities have used pumped hydro storage as an economical way to utilise off-peak energy, by pumping water to a reservoir at a higher level. During peak load periods the stored water is discharged through the pumps, then acting as turbines, to ...

Pumped Hydro Storage

2019
Pumped hydro storage is analogous to the operation of a massive battery, capable of storing hundreds of megawatts of energy in a simple and sustainable manner. Hydrogeneration projects are strategic in nature and always involve an investment on a national scale.
