In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

To Pump or Not to Pump? Heat Pump Strategies and Payoffs [PDF]
After several evaluations of waste heat sources and designing heat pumps to recover energy, it has become very apparent that there is a great deal of confusion about just what makes a heat pump economic. The purpose of this article is to look into the design and economics of heat pump systems to determine what makes certain heat pump applications ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Solar Powered Borehole Pumps [PDF]
Electricity generated by solar panels (photovoltaic power) has been used for powering pumps for many years but in the past these systems have suffered from high capital costs, low power and uncertain reliability.

Performance Prediction Based on Effects of Wrapping Angle of a Side Channel Pump
This paper seeks to predict the performance of the side channel pump by considering the influences of different wrapping angles. Firstly, three pump cases 1, 2 and 3 are modeled with wrapping angles 15°, 30° and 45°, respectively.

Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

Ground-source heat pumps and underground thermal energy storage: energy for the future [PDF]
We need energy for space heating—but in most cases not where or when energy sources are available. Energy storage, which helps match energy supply and demand, has been practised for centuries, also in Norway.
