Central Involvement in Pure Autonomic Failure: Insights from Neuromelanin-Sensitive Magnetic Resonance Imaging and 18F-Fluorodopa-Positron Emission Tomography. [PDF]

open access: hybridMov Disord
Central synucleinopathies, including Parkinson's disease (PD), dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), and multiple system atrophy (MSA), involve alpha‐synuclein accumulation and dopaminergic cell loss in the substantia nigra (SN) and locus coeruleus (LC). Pure

Stress induced hypotension in pure autonomic failure [PDF]

open access: greenJournal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry, 2005
A 47 year old woman with pure autonomic failure complained of dizziness during emotional stress. Emotional stimuli have not previously been reported to cause hypotension in patients with autonomic failure. In the patient, ambulatory blood pressure recording revealed severe hypotension (50/30 mm Hg) after a stressful event.

Pure autonomic failure: Predictors of conversion to clinical CNS involvement. [PDF]

open access: yesNeurology, 2017
Based on the observation that a subset of patients originally diagnosed with pure autonomic failure (PAF) eventually develops extrapyramidal or cerebellar involvement consistent with multiple system atrophy (MSA), Parkinson disease (PD), or dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), we aimed to identify predictors of progression of PAF to more sinister ...

Frequent Nocturnal Vocalization in Pure Autonomic Failure [PDF]

open access: bronzeJournal of International Medical Research, 2008
Nocturnal vocalization is frequent in Parkinson's disease patients with rapid eye movement (REM) sleep behaviour disorder (RBD). We investigated the frequency of nocturnal vocalization and other sleep problems in patients with pure autonomic failure (PAF) and compared the results with idiopathic Parkinson's disease (IPD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (

Pure Progressive Autonomic Failure Presenting Severe Orthostatic Hypotension.

open access: bronzeInternal Medicine, 1993
A 59-year-old woman showed chronic progressive autonomic failure consisting of orthostatic hypotension and dyshidrosis. No signs of Parkinsonism, cerebellar or peripheral neuropathy were observed. Autonomic nervous function tests and findings of biopsied sural nerve suggested that this case had both sympathetic and parasympathetic dysfunctions, mainly ...
