Žižek’s “Frankenstein”: Modernity, Anti-Enlightenment Critique and Debates on the Left
In this article, I examine Slavoj Žižek’s Freudian-Hegelian interpretation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein: or the Modern Prometheus (1818), and argue that Žižek’s critique of Shelley’s ambiguous and contradictory attitude toward the French Revolution ...

Essential crossed products for inverse semigroup actions: simplicity and pure infiniteness [PDF]
We define "essential" crossed products for inverse semigroup actions by Hilbert bimodules on C*-algebras and for Fell bundles over etale, locally compact groupoids.

Open Set Lattices of Subspaces of Spectrum Spaces
We take a unified approach to study the open set lattices of various subspaces of the spectrum of a multiplicative lattice L. The main aim is to establish the order isomorphism between the open set lattice of the respective subspace and a sub-poset of L.

Almost complete intersection binomial edge ideals and their Rees algebras [PDF]
Let $G$ be a simple graph on $n$ vertices and $J_G$ denote the corresponding binomial edge ideal in the polynomial ring $S = K[x_1, \ldots, x_n, y_1, \ldots, y_n].$ In this article, we compute the second Betti number and obtain a minimal presentation of ...

Regularity of symbolic powers of edge ideals [PDF]
In this article, we prove that for several classes of graphs, the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of symbolic powers of their edge ideals coincide with that of their ordinary powers.

Fighting the Philistines: Robert Schumann and the Davidsbündler
Robert Schumann was an eccentric composer and musical critic who influenced the Romantic-era musical community through the formation of the Davidsbündler. This “league of David” was Schumann’s idea of a musical society which exemplified a distinctly pure

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

The Patent and the Paper: a Few Thoughts on Late Modern Science and Intellectual Property
Marie and Pierre Curie's decision not to patent the discovery (1898) and later isolation (1902) of radium is perhaps the most famous of all disinterested decisions in the history of science.

In this paper, we introduce the concept of N-pure ideal as a generalization of pure ideal. Using this concept, a new and interesting type of rings is presented, we call it mid ring. Also, we provide new characterizations for von Neumann regular and zero-dimensional rings. Moreover, some results about mp-ring are given.
