Feature purify: An examination of spurious correlations in high-entropy alloys

open access: yesMaterials & Design
Patterns in datasets, while key to successful predictions, can also be misleading. In this study, a feature filtering workflow based on interpretable dimensionality reduction techniques was developed to diagnose the spurious correlations in high-entropy ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Utilizing native ligands to purify membrane protein complexes in a soluble state

open access: yes, 2022
Purification and characterization of membrane proteins is often limited by the ability to reconstitute membrane proteins into a soluble state with a membrane mimetic, while ensuring the protein is in a native state.

Single and Combined Methods to Specifically or Bulk-Purify RNA–Protein Complexes

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2020
The ribonome interconnects the proteome and the transcriptome. Specific biology is situated at this interface, which can be studied in bulk using omics approaches or specifically by targeting an individual protein or RNA species. In this review, we focus

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Hypoosmotic Exposure of Canine Pancreatic Digest as a Means to Purify Islet Tissue

open access: yesCell Transplantation, 1997
The development of more effective means to separate pancreatic islets from the unwanted exocrine tissue would greatly advance the field of clinical islet allotransplantation in the treatment of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. Recent experiments with

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.
