Research Methods Brief: Attrition Happens (and What to Do About It)
Attrition (participant "dropout") is the loss of participants from a program/initiative or longitudinal (e.g., pre/post) data collection. If participants dropout for non-random, systematic reasons, those factors bias the sample and limit the study or ...

Incentivizing P/CVE Research, Evaluation, & Program Participants
Incentivizing research or evaluation participants can be crucial toward reducing data collection timeframes and obtaining sufficient sample sizes (i.e., to reduce the risks of obtaining null or misleading findings).

Background: An adequate future liver remnant (FLR) is fundamental for major liver resections. To achieve sufficient FLR, portal vein embolization (PVE) may be used. The most effective material for PVE has yet to be determined.

Background Right extended liver resection is frequently required to achieve tumor-free margins. Portal venous embolization (PVE) of the prospective resected hepatic segments for conditioning segments II/III does not always induce adequate hypertrophy in ...

A Rare Allele of ST5 From Wild Rice Enhances Salt Tolerance in Rice
A novel salt‐tolerance gene ST5W, characterized by a unique 36‐bp promoter insertion, is found exclusively in a small subset of Oryza rufipogon and is absent in cultivated rice. Field trials confirm ST5W significantly enhances rice yield across diverse genetic backgrounds under saline conditions.

Decoupling biological signals from unwanted variation in multi‑condition single‑cell RNA sequencing data remains challenging. CAPER disentangles condition‑associated biological effects from sample heterogeneity through matrix factorization, producing interpretable latent factors and a batch‑corrected expression matrix.

Background Simultaneous portal vein embolization (PVE) and hepatic vein embolization (HVE) has been shown to be feasible, safe and lead to a faster growth of future liver remnant (FLR) than PVE alone. The objective of this study is to highlight different
