Fatigue-performance improvement of patch-plate welding via PWHT with induction heating

Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 2019
Abstract The basic features of residual stress generated by patch-plate welding for the repair of steel structural members were examined through a series of experiments and numerical simulations. The welding residual stresses in the patch and base plates covered by the patch plate comprised of tension and compression, respectively.

Effect of PWHT on metallurgical and mechanical characterization of dissimilar welded joint of P91 and P92 steels

Journal of Adhesion Science and Technology, 2023
P91 and P92 steels are widely used in nuclear and thermal power plant’s high-temperature (650–700 °C) operating components. The welding procedure, base plate composition, filler material composition, and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) significantly ...

A primary plus secondary local PWHT method for mitigating weld residual stresses in pressure vessels

, 2021
Local heat treatment is a widely used to control the welding residual stress for ultra-large pressure vessels due to the upsizing of pressure vessels such as the super-large diameter and overlength.

Characterization of nanoscale precipitates and enhanced mechanical properties of high strength weld metals containing Cu additions after PWHT

Metallurgical Research and Technology, 2022
In order to match rapidly development of high strength low alloy steels, the new metal cored wire contained copper was designed. The multi-pass weld metals were obtained by gas metal arc welding. Results show that microstructure of weld metals is bainite

Stress Relaxation Behavior in PWHT of Welded Components

Volume 6: Materials and Fabrication, Parts A and B, 2011
This paper is focused on the discussion of weld residual stress relaxation in a uniform post weld heat treatment (PWHT). In particular, the paper is attempted to address a fundamental issue related to the PWHT stress relaxation behavior, i.e., what is the dominant stress relaxation mechanism in PWHT? Is it due to creep or material strength reduction at

Considerations on PWHT requirements and their effects

Revue de Métallurgie, 2008
The many heat treatments upon fabrication may deteriorate the tensile properties of the tempered base material or to alter its weldability or toughness. It is essential to take into consideration all heat treatments each zone is submitted to: base metal, heat affected zone, weld metal in order to optimize the global properties ...

A rigid-flexible coordinated method to control weld residual stress and deformation during local PWHT for ultra-large pressure vessels

, 2021
Local post welding heat treatment (PWHT) is a feasible method to eliminate weld residual stress for ultra-large pressure vessels. This paper is focused on the discussion of weld residual stress and deformation for the typical ultra-large mechanical ...

Utilizing Thermal Spray Metal Coating Technology to Avoid PWHT

CORROSION 2016, 2016
Abstract This paper presents an experience in utilizing Thermal Spray Coating Technology on top of weld build-up of CS Pressure Vessel eroded shell. The column is under rich amine service and had severe erosion on some of its internal surface of the shell.
