High accuracy and efficiency calculation model for predicting the reduction of residual stress on large pressure vessels by ultrasonic impact surface treatment

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 5, Issue 11, November 2023., 2023
A full‐coverage impacting model is proposed to simulate the UIT process. The proposed full coverage impacting model can greatly improve the simulation precision and the calculation efficiency. A remarkable reduction in residual stress was achieved in the zone subjected to UIT.

[Retracted] Influence of Heat‐Treated and Vibratory‐Assisted Weld Joints on the Mechanical Properties of 304L SS Material

open access: yesJournal of Nanomaterials, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
Tensile and impact strengths of 304L SS stainless steel weldment prepared at different levels of heat treatments and with vibratory assistance were studied and compared with the conventional process of welding. The results reveal that the microstructures of weld joints after heat treatment and vibratory welded joints attained a fine grain structure ...

Effect of Repeated Weld Repairs on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Heat‐Affected Zone in CA6NM Stainless Steel

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
The low‐carbon martensitic stainless steel CA6NM is widely used in the impellers of hydroelectric and nuclear power units due to its advantages of high hardness, corrosion fatigue strength, and good fracture toughness. In order to analyze the number of repair welding times on the properties of heat‐affected zone (HAZ, the most unstable area of welded ...

Potentiodynamic Corrosion Behavior and Microstructural Characteristics of Pulsed CMT‐Welded AA2014‐T6 Aluminium Alloy Joints: Effect of PWHT

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
AA2014‐T6 is an Al‐Cu‐Mg‐based precipitation‐hardened aluminium alloy widely used in aerospace due to its high strength to weight ratio. This alloy is joined by a pulsed cold metal transfer (PCMT) arc welding process to overcome the high heat input related problems in gas metal arc welding (GMAW) such as a coarser dendritic structure in the fusion zone

Metallographic Investigation on Postweld Heat‐Treated0.21%C‐1020 Steel Plates Joined by SMAW Method

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
This paper presents analysis and comparison into mechanical behaviour and microstructural attributes of postweld heat‐treated AISI 1020 (0.21%‐C) plates joined by the shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) process. The purpose of this work is to heat the welded samples uniformly so that a possible formation of austenite can be obtained, and hence, residual ...
