Pygmy grasshoppers of the genus Xistra Bolívar, 1887 (Orthoptera: Tetrigidae: Metrodorinae)

Zootaxa, 2022
The genus Xistra Bolívar is reviewed. Two new species from China, Xistra hainanensis Deng, sp. nov. and Xistra nigriabdominis Deng, sp. nov. are described and illustrated. Three new combinations are established: Xistra emeiensis (Zheng, 1998), comb. nov., Xistra guangxiensis (Zheng, 1998), comb. nov. and Xistra lochengensis (Zheng, 2005), comb.

Pygmy grasshoppers (Orthoptera: Tetrigidae) of Vietnam: the genus Bolivaritettix Günther, 1939

Zootaxa, 2018
Vietnamese species of the genus Bolivaritettix Günther, 1939 are reviewed and illustrated. Altogether ten species are reported from Vietnam, of which five are new to science, namely—B. abruptus sp. nov., B. anaglypticus sp. nov., B. constrictus sp. nov., B. similis sp. nov., and B. vietnamensis sp. nov., while three species, B. sculptus (Bolívar, 1887),

Is melanism in pygmy grasshoppers induced by crowding?

Evolutionary Ecology, 2010
Color polymorphisms in animals may result from plasticity of the developmental system in response to genetic cues in the form of allelic variation at polymorphic loci, environmental cues, or a combination of genetic and environmental cues. An increased understanding of the evolution of color polymorphisms requires better knowledge of when we should ...

New and little-known pygmy grasshoppers (Orthoptera: Tetrigidae) from Thailand

Zootaxa, 2015
An annotated list of 39 species in 25 genera and seven subfamilies of the pygmy grasshoppers (Orthoptera: Tetrididae) from Thailand is given; from these 18 species are recorded from this country for the first time. Five new species are described: Cotysoides gaponi sp. nov. (subfamily Metrodorinae), Eucriotettix anisyutkini sp.

Developmental instability and immune function in colour polymorphic pygmy grasshoppers

Evolutionary Ecology, 2005
Random left minus right deviations from symmetry in otherwise bilaterally symmetric traits may arise due to developmental instability in response to environmental stress. Here we test for variation in developmental instability, measured as asymmetry of (femur) size, among individuals belonging to four different genetically encoded colour morphs of the ...

PYGMY GRASSHOPPERS:

Pygmy grasshoppers are a morphologically and ecologically unique group of tiny grasshoppers forming the large family Tetrigidae. With 2,000 described species assigned to almost 300 genera, they are the second-largest among 36 caeliferan families, second only to Acrididae.

Global diversity of true and pygmy grasshoppers (Acridomorpha, Orthoptera) in freshwater

Hydrobiologia, 2007
A small percentage of Orthoptera Acridomorpha is comprised species dependant on continental water ecosystems. However, as phytophagous insects, they are important at the basis of the trophic chain, mainly in regions with large permanent biota resulting from the pulses of the rivers.

Pygmy grasshoppers (Orthoptera: Tetrigidae) from Bạch Mã National Park, central Vietnam

Zootaxa, 2023
A list of 10 species from three subfamilies of Tetrigidae from Bạch Mã National Park in the province of Thừa Thiên-Huế, Vietnam is presented here. Eight of which are new for the national park. Among these, two new species are described: Miriatroides luna Tan & Storozhenko, sp. nov. and Rhopalina bachma Tan & Storozhenko, sp. nov.

Spatial sorting may explain evolutionary dynamics of wing polymorphism in pygmy grasshoppers

Journal of Evolutionary Biology, 2012
AbstractWing polymorphism in insects provides a good model system for investigating evolutionary dynamics and population divergence in dispersal‐enhancing traits. This study investigates the contribution of divergent selection, trade‐offs, behaviour and spatial sorting to the evolutionary dynamics of wing polymorphism in the pygmy grasshopperTetrix ...

New data on the pygmy grasshopper genus Epitettix Hancock, 1907 (Orthoptera: Tetrigidae)

Zootaxa, 2021
The species composition of the genus Epitettix (Tetrigidae: Cladonotinae) is discussed. The differential diagnosis of the genus is given. New synonymies are proposed: Epitettix Hancock, 1907 = Vaotettix Podgornaja, 1986, syn. nov., = Pseudepitettix Zheng, 1995, syn. nov. Two new taxa are described, namely Epitettix mikhailovi sp. nov. from Vietnam (Gia
