Insect Systematics & Evolution, 1997AbstractThe homologous use of the term gnathos according to Klots is analysed in the Pyraloidea. A structure of tegumental origin erroneously believed to be the gnathos by various authors in the Crambidae, here named the pseudognathos, is described. The occurrence of these structures in the different subfamilies of Pyralidae and Crambidae is discussed.
