Two series of mesogenic compounds consisting of a rigid pyramidal central core and six equal flexible side chains were synthesized and their mesomorphic properties studied by calorimetry and optical microscopy. The two series of compounds are: I-hexaalkyloxytribenzocyclononene and II-hexaalkanoyloxytribenzocyclononene.

IntroductionReusable systems can reduce plastic pollution from single-use packaging in fast-moving consumer goods in the Global South. While both “at-home” and “on-the-go” models exist, the latter requires greater consumer effort, as users must regularly

Recovering pyramid WS gain in non-common path aberration correction mode via deformable lens
It is by now well known that pyramid based wavefront sensors, once in closed loop, have the capability to improve more and more the gain as the reference natural star image size is getting smaller on the pyramid pin. Especially in extreme adaptive optics

A Reverse Hierarchy Model for Predicting Eye Fixations [PDF]
A number of psychological and physiological evidences suggest that early visual attention works in a coarse-to-fine way, which lays a basis for the reverse hierarchy theory (RHT).

Interactions Between Lr67 or Lr34 and Other Leaf Rust Resistance Genes in Wheat (Triticum aestivum)
The wheat multi-pest resistance genes Lr67 and Lr34 are similar in that they both condition resistance to many diseases, in a non-race-specific manner, and code for cellular transporters.

Variation around a Pyramid theme: optical recombination and optimal use of photons
We propose a new type of Wave Front Sensor (WFS) derived from the Pyramid WFS (PWFS). This new WFS, called the Flattened Pyramid-WFS (FPWFS), has a reduced Pyramid angle in order to optically overlap the four pupil images into an unique intensity.

We study thermodynamic properties of an Ising model of a ferromagnetic nanoscopic pyramid deposited onto a ferromagnetic bulk substrate. The influence of the interaction between the pyramid and the substrate is calculated in terms of the equilibrium ...

Phase transitions in nanosystems caused by interface motion: The Ising bi-pyramid with competing surface fields [PDF]
The phase behavior of a large but finite Ising ferromagnet in the presence of competing surface magnetic fields +/- H_s is studied by Monte Carlo simulations and by phenomenological theory.
