Von Economo Neuron Loss in Frontotemporal Dementia: A Meta‐Analysis of Neuropathological Studies

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Von Economo neurons (VENs) have been reported to be vulnerable to neurodegeneration in frontotemporal dementia (FTD), particularly the behavioral variant (bvFTD), but these findings have not been systematically assessed across independent brain banks.

Effect of apex and attack angles to horseshoe vortex formed around a pyramid obstacle

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2019
The effect of apex and attack angles to the flow around a pyramid obstacle was investigated with flow visualization and laser Doppler velocimetry. The flow visualization was performed by dye injection and electrolytic etching methods. The Reynolds number

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

SPG4 and Dementia: Expanding the Clinical Spectrum

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP) is a group of disorders characterized by progressive spasticity and lower limb weakness, with mutations in SPG4/SPAST being the most common cause. Detailed studies and clinical and molecular comparisons across different populations are missing.

Movement Disorders in Aicardi–Goutières Syndrome and Response to Immunomodulation

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study characterizes movement disorders and treatment responses in seven children with Aicardi–Goutières syndrome (AGS). We retrospectively evaluated motor phenotypes, neuroimaging, and interferon signatures in patients treated with baricitinib or anifrolumab. Spasticity affected all patients, while dystonia was present in 4/7.

MR ANGIOGRAPHY IN EVALUATION OF ARTERIOVENOUS FISTULAS IN HEMODIALYSIS PATIENTS

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Nephrology, 2019
Knowing the nature of anatomic disturbances in arteriovenous fistulas in hemodialysis patients is crucial in the management. Duplex ultrasonography and intraarterial angiography are the main imaging techniques applied in clinical practice.
