Transport engineering as a strategy to realize rapeseed's potential as a protein‐rich food

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
The heavily pesticide‐dependent rapeseed is an under‐utilized protein source for food owing to anti‐nutritional glucosinolates. Transport engineering technology may reduce glucosinolates in seeds while increasing defense in vegetative parts. Abstract Rapeseed is the world's second‐largest oilseed crop, and the low‐value press cake that remains after ...

Experimental hut evaluation of bednets treated with an organophosphate (chlorpyrifos-methyl) or a pyrethroid (lambdacyhalothrin) alone and in combination against insecticide-resistant Anopheles gambiae and Culex quinquefasciatus mosquitoes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
BACKGROUND: Pyrethroid resistant mosquitoes are becoming increasingly common in parts of Africa. It is important to identify alternative insecticides which, if necessary, could be used to replace or supplement the pyrethroids for use on treated nets ...

Susceptibility status of the wild-caught Phlebotomus argentipes (Diptera: Psychodidae: Phlebotominae), the sand fly vector of visceral leishmaniasis, to different insecticides in Nepal.

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2022
BackgroundVisceral leishmaniasis (VL) is targeted for elimination as a public health problem in Nepal by 2023. For nearly three decades, the core vector control intervention in Nepal has been indoor residual spraying (IRS) with pyrethroids.

SYN‐A, a naturally derived synergist, restores pyrethroid efficacy against cabbage stem flea beetle but negatively impacts its parasitoid Microctonus brassicae

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
SYN‐A, a naturally derived synergist, inhibited key metabolic pathways associated with pyrethroid insecticide resistance in cabbage stem flea beetle (CSFB) and its parasitoid Microctonus brassicae. SYN‐A restored pyrethroid efficacy against resistant CSFB allowing up to 80% reduction in application rates.

Experimental hut comparisons of nets treated with carbamate or pyrethroid insecticides, washed or unwashed, against pyrethroid-resistant mosquitoes.

open access: yes, 2004
The efficacy against mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) of a bednet treated with carbamate insecticide [carbosulfan capsule suspension (CS) 200 mg/m(2)] was compared with four types of pyrethroid-treated nets in veranda-trap huts at Yaokoffikro near Bouaké,

Loss of protection with insecticide-treated nets against pyrethroid-resistant Culex quinquefasciatus mosquitoes once nets become holed: an experimental hut study. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
BACKGROUND: An important advantage of pyrethroid-treated nets over untreated nets is that once nets become worn or holed a pyrethroid treatment will normally restore protection. The capacity of pyrethroids to kill or irritate any mosquito that comes into

Evaluating the impact of pyrethroid insecticide resistance on reproductive fitness in Sitobion avenae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Resistance to insecticides used to control pests is an issue of increasing concern for agriculture. The grain aphid, Sitobion avenae, is a pest of cereals and grasses worldwide, and one of growing concern due to the evolution of resistance to certain ...

Metabolic resistance to pyrethroids with possible involvement of non-coding ribonucleic acids in Anopheles funestus, the major malaria vector in western Kenya

open access: yesBMC Genomics
Background The resurgence of Anopheles funestus, a dominant vector of human malaria in western Kenya was partly attributed to insecticide resistance. However, evidence on the molecular basis of pyrethroid resistance in western Kenya is limited.

Mapping a Quantitative Trait Locus (QTL) conferring pyrethroid resistance in the African malaria vector Anopheles funestus

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2007
Background Pyrethroid resistance in Anopheles funestus populations has led to an increase in malaria transmission in southern Africa. Resistance has been attributed to elevated activities of cytochrome P450s but the molecular basis underlying this ...

Synthetic polymer nanocarrier enhances dsRNA stability but not RNAi efficacy in Brassicogethes aeneus

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Experimental setup for dsRNA feeding in Brassicogethes aeneus to evaluate the effect of a synthetic polymer nanocarrier on RNAi efficiency. The experiment assessed whether the nanocarrier enhances RNAi after oral dsRNA delivery. (a) Stability of dsRNA–nanocarrier complexes was tested in simulated gut conditions. (b) Gene expression of αCOP and dre4 was
