Background Pyrethroid resistance in the key malaria vectors threatens the success of pyrethroid-treated nets. To overcome pyrethroid resistance, Interceptor® G2 (IG2), a ‘first-in-class’ dual insecticidal net that combines alpha-cypermethrin with ...

Transcriptome sequencing of Ceutorhynchus obstrictus revealed RNA interference (RNAi) targets; double‐stranded RNA microinjection reduced transcript levels and increased mortality, with αCOP and Rop showing strongest lethal effects, indicating promising RNAi‐based pest control candidates.

Insecticide resistance in the West African malaria vector Anopheles gambiae and investigation of alternative tools for its delay [PDF]
There is a current policy to eliminate malaria in the African continent. Pyrethroid-incorporated Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) and/or Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) are the chemical weapons being deployed to achieve that goal. Rather worryingly,

OBJECTIVE: To compare the efficacy of chlorfenapyr applied on mosquito nets and as an indoor residual spray against populations of Anopheles gambiae and Culex quinquefasciatus in an area of Benin that shows problematic levels of pyrethroid resistance ...

Do holes in long-lasting insecticidal nets compromise their efficacy against pyrethroid resistant Anopheles gambiae and Culex quinquefasciatus? : Results from a release-recapture study in experimental huts [PDF]
Resistance of malaria vectors to pyrethroids threatens the effectiveness of long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) as a tool for malaria control. Recent experimental hut and observational studies in Benin show that pyrethroid resistance reduces the ...

Emerging Pyrethroid Resistance among Anopheles arabiensis in Kenya [PDF]
Vector control programs, particularly in the form of insecticide-treated bed nets (ITNs), are essential for achieving malaria elimination goals. Recent reports of increasing knockdown resistance (kdr) mutation frequencies for Anopheles arabiensis in Western Kenya heightens the concern on the future effectiveness of ITNs in Kenya. We examined resistance

The study has identified mutations in the voltage gated sodium channel of the English grain aphid (Sitobion avenae) at M918 and L932, which have not been previously reported in this species. Abstract BACKGROUND The grain aphid, Sitobion avenae Fabricius (Hemiptera: Aphididae), is a vector of yellow dwarf viruses and an important pest of cereals.

Molecular characterization of western corn rootworm pyrethroid resistance
AbstractBACKGROUNDWestern corn rootworm (WCR) pyrethroid resistance has been confirmed in the western US Corn Belt. Toxicological and biochemical studies indicated that multiple mechanisms of resistance might be involved in the resistance trait, such as enhanced metabolism and/or kdr target‐site mutation(s) in the voltage‐gated sodium channels.

Molecular screening of 140 field‐collected Myzus persicae aphids revealed target‐site mutations L1014F, M918L, M918T, and L932F in the sodium channel and S431F in Ace2. The M918L mutation was the primary driver of high pyrethroid (cypermethrin) resistance, while S431F served as a definitive marker for carbamate (pirimicarb) resistance.
