Hyperpigmentation Due to Pyrimethamine Use
The Journal of Dermatology, 2002AbstractPyrimethamine is used for the treatment of toxoplasmosis and the prophylaxis of malaria. Among the well‐documented side effects are megaloblastic anemia, leukopenia, thrombopenia, rash, vomiting, and diarrhea. Hyperpigmentation is a very rare side effect.

Pyrimethamine has been used principally to treat infections from protozoan parasites. Although previous studies have shown that pyrimethamine exhibited anticancer activity by inducing cellular apoptosis, there are none that show that pyrimethamine ...

Biopharmaceutics & Drug Disposition, 1986
AbstractWe have investigated the plasma pharmacokinetics and mass fate in mice, of pyrimethamine administered as either the base or as the poorly soluble pamoate salt, in each case by the intraperitoneal (i.p.) and subcutanous (s.c.) routes. Following the administration of pyrimethamine base (i.p.

Detection and estimation of pyrimethamine in urine
Journal of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis, 1989A procedure is described here for the specific detection, and spectrophotometric determination, of pyrimethamine in urine. The method is based on the reaction of pyrimethamine with salicylaldehyde and zinc acetate to give a yellowish-green fluorescent ...

Experimental Parasitology, 1997
With emerging drug resistance in Plasmodium falciparum, novel antifolates effective against pyrimethamine-resistant and cycloguanil-resistant dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) are in demand. Based on structural similarity to cycloguanil, it has been proposed that WR99210, and its metabolic precursor PS-15, exerts selective antimalarial activity by binding

Physiological disposition of pyrimethamine-H3
Experimental Parasitology, 1961Abstract The physiological dispcsition of tritiated pyrimethamine and some pyrimethamine salts have been investigated in laboratory animals. After oral administration to rabbits, mice and a monkey, a major portion of the drug was not absorbed and 50 to 80% was excreted unchanged in the feces.

Treatment of Severe Psoriasis With Pyrimethamine
Archives of Dermatology, 1977Pyrimethamine, a folate antagonist similar to methrotrexate without known hepatotoxcity in man, was administer orally, once a week, to seven patients with severe, long-standing psoriasis. Four patients obtained a good to excellent response; a fifth withdrew from the study early after a partial response; a sixth had minimal response to high doses, and ...

Doxycycline and Pyrimethamine for Toxoplasmic Encephalitis
Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1993Clinical improvement is reported in a 40-year-old man with AIDS and presumed toxoplasmic encephalitis, who was treated with doxycycline, 400 mg, and pyrimethamine, 25 mg, daily. Computerised tomography (CT) scanning of the brain showed complete resolution of 2 ring-enhanced lesions within 5 weeks.
