Pyroelectricity is observed and measured in poly-2,4-hexadiyne-1,6-diol bis(p-toluene sulphonate), (abbreviated PTS), between 76 and 300 K. PTS is claimed to be monoclinic and to belong to the space group P21/c, i.e. it should have a center of symmetry, so that the observation of pyroelectricity is in conflict with the structure determination.

Equivalent pyroelectric coefficient of a pyroelectric bimorph structure
Journal of Applied Physics, 2000A detailed formula for the equivalent pyroelectric coefficient of a bimorph structure acting as a pyroelectric detector was deduced. It is shown that electric fields occur in the structure when it is subjected to a temperature variation, due to the unequal charges generated by the two components.

Water ice usually is thought to have zero pyroelectricity by symmetry. However, biasing it with ions breaks the symmetry because of the induced partial dipole alignment. This unmasks a large pyroelectricity. Ions were soft-landed upon 1 mum films of water ice at temperatures greater than 160 K. When cooled below 140-150 K, the dipole alignment locks in.
