Viscosity modification of flash pyrolysis tars

Abstract A study was made of the effect of a number of additives on the viscosity of a characteristic tar produced by the flash pyrolysis of indigenous Australian coals. The results indicate that aliphatic compounds are more effective than aromatic compounds in lowering the viscosity.

Pyrolysis of lignin in coal-tar pitch

The pyrolysis of hydrolytic lignin in coal-tar pitch over a temperature range of 320–380°C was studied in a batch reactor at atmospheric pressure. As a result of reactions with pitch, lignin underwent dissolution and destruction with the formation of compounds that remained in the reactor or were released from the reactor as liquid and gaseous products.

The first method used a conventional cold-trapping technique in solvent-filled impingers followed by liquid injection. Characterization of pyrolysis tars from Canadian coals

Tars produced by rapid pyrolysis of several Canadian coals have been characterized. Raw tars were separated into solvent fractions which were analysed by a combination of PONA separation by high-performance liquid chromatography, high-resolution capillary gas chromatography and chromatography-mass spectrometry.

The behavior of coal tars with different levels of pyrolysis in thermal fractionation is compared in the laboratory. Pyrolysis of Morupule Coal Dust for the Production of Tar

The study on coal dust pyrolysis was carried out and three products were obtained, tar, char and gas. Pyrolysis of Morupule coal dust was carried out at different temperature to determine how change of temperature affect tar yield. Temperatures were varied from 400°C, then 500°C, 550°C and lastly at 600°C.
