Viral discovery and diversity in trypanosomatid protozoa with a focus on relatives of the human parasite Leishmania. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Knowledge of viral diversity is expanding greatly, but many lineages remain underexplored. We surveyed RNA viruses in 52 cultured monoxenous relatives of the human parasite <i>Leishmania</i> ( <i>Crithidia</i> and <i> ...

A review to the methods of personality measurements in wild animals 野生动物个性测量方法的综述

open access: yesWildlife Letters, Volume 1, Issue 3, Page 131-142, September 2023., 2023
One of the challenges in animal personality study is finding a suitable method to measure personality. Here, we outlined three methods (traits rating, behavioral coding, and experimentation) used in animal personality measurement. We found that traits rating was commonly used to test large‐sized animals (e.g., primates), behavioral coding was conducted

Don't You Know That I'm Toxic? Wild Birds Learn to Avoid a Novel Aposematic Warning Signal. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
The foraging behaviours of predators towards aposematic prey have been studied extensively and there is much empirical evidence to support this theory. Often, studies involving wild species are relatively short‐term and so there is a possibility that any aversive behaviours exhibited by predators are merely neophobic. In this study, we ensure predators

Genome of Leptomonas pyrrhocoris:a high-quality reference for monoxenous trypanosomatids and new insights into evolution of Leishmania [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Many high-quality genomes are available for dixenous (two hosts) trypanosomatid species of the genera Trypanosoma, Leishmania, and Phytomonas, but only fragmentary information is available for monoxenous (single-host) trypanosomatids. In trypanosomatids,

Individual behaviour in firebugs (Pyrrhocoris apterus) [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, 2010
The concept of animal personalities has recently become of major interest as researchers began to wonder why animals within a given population show consistent behaviour across situations and contexts, what led to the evolution of such behavioural inflexibility and what mechanisms might underlie the phenomenon.

Insight into mosquito GnRH-related neuropeptide receptor specificity revealed through analysis of naturally occurring and synthetic analogs of this neuropeptide family [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Adipokinetic hormone (AKH), corazonin (CRZ), and the AKH/CRZ-related peptide (ACP) are neuropeptides considered homologous to the vertebrate gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH).

Leptomonas pyrrhocoris: Genomic insight into Parasite's Physiology [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Genomics, 2018
Leptomonas pyrrhocoris is a parasite of the firebug Pyrrhocoris apterus. This flagellate has been recently proposed as a model species for studying different aspects of the biology of monoxenous trypanosomatids, including host - parasite interactions. During its life cycle L. pyrrhocoris never tightly attaches to the epithelium of the insect gut.

open access: yesActa Biologica Sibirica, 2016
Впервые проведена биоиндикационная оценка состояния окружающей среды в г. Барнауле по характеру меланизированного рисунка переднеспинки клопа-солдатика (Pyrrhocoris apterus (Linnaeus, 1758)).

Induced hyperlipaemia and immune challenge in locusts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Injections of immunogens, such as β-1,3-glucan or lipopolysaccharide (LPS), bring about a marked hyperlipaemia with associated changes in lipophorins and apolipophorin-III in the haemolymph of Locusta migratoria.

Termination of diapause in the lime seed bug Oxycarenus lavaterae (Heteroptera: Lygaeoidea: Oxycarenidae)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2023
The true bug Oxycarenus lavaterae has spread northwards through Europe from the Mediterranean at the beginning of the 21st century. Temperature and photoperiod in particular countries are important for the prediction of further spread.
