Induction of pyruvate decarboxylase in Candida utilis
Mycopathologia, 1983Induction of cytoplasmic pyruvate decarboxylase (PDC) in Candida utilis increases with culture age throughout aerobic logarithmic phase growth on glucose and is due to oxygen depletion. Resting cells, grown on ethanol or acetate, fail to initiate PDC synthesis for two to three hours following anaerobic suspension in glucose although these cells are ...

Pyruvic decarboxylase and acetoin formation in Athiorhodaceae
Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1973Studies with cell-free extracts of Rhodopseudomonas palustris strain Q showed that under anaerobic conditions pyruvate was decarboxylated with the stoichiometric formation of carbon dioxide. Other products of the reaction include acetaldehyde and acetoin (acetyl methyl carbinol), indicating the presence of pyruvic decarboxylase. A survey of purple non-

Kinetics of Pyruvate Decarboxylase Deactivation by Benzaldehyde [PDF]
Based on experimental data, a kinetic model for the deactivation of partially purified pyruvate decarboxylase (PDC) by benzaldehyde (0–200 mM) in MOPS buffer (2.5 M) has been developed. An initial lag period prior to deactivation was found to occur. With first order dependencies of PDC deactivation on exposure time and on benzaldehyde concentration, a ...

Inhibition of transketolase and pyruvate decarboxylase by omeprazole
Biochemical Pharmacology, 1992Omeprazole inhibited two thiamin diphosphate-dependent enzymes, pyruvate decarboxylase (EC 4.1.1.1, PDC) from Zymomonas mobilis and transketolase (EC 2.2.1.1, TK) from human erythrocytes. Inhibition of PDC was competitive with the coenzyme with a Ki value of 42 +/- 3 microM, whereas inhibition of TK was complex.

Pyruvate decarboxylase and anaerobic survival in Aspergillusnidulans
Gene, 1997The presence of pyruvate decarboxylase activity has been demonstrated in Aspergillus nidulans, and a gene encoding a pyruvate decarboxylase has been isolated from this organism and physically characterized. The isolation of the pdcA gene in A. nidulans confirms the existence of the alcoholic fermentation pathway in this fungus, despite it being an ...

Role of pyruvate in enhancing pyruvate decarboxylase stability towards benzaldehyde
Journal of Biotechnology, 2005Biotransformation of benzaldehyde and pyruvate into (R)-phenylacetylcarbinol (PAC) catalysed by Candida utilis pyruvate decarboxylase (PDC) at low buffer concentration (20 mM MOPS) was enhanced by maintenance of neutral pH through acetic acid addition. PDC was very stable in this buffer (half-life 138 h at 6 degrees C), however a benzaldehyde emulsion (
