The Effect of myo-Inositol on Pyruvate Decarboxylase
Saccharomyces carlsbergensis 4228 (ATCC 9080) was cultivated for 24 hours in four different media containing 0, 50, 150 and 500μg of myo-inositol per 20ml. The growth of the yeast and the specific activity of pyruvate decarboxylase extracted from the respective cell preparations were found to be proportional to the amount of inositol in the medium. The

Inactivation of pyruvate decarboxylase by 3-hydroxypyruvate [PDF]
Pyruvate decarboxylase from Zymomonas mobilis is inhibited by 3-hydroxypyruvate, which can also act as a poor substrate. While catalysing the decarboxylation of this alternative substrate, the enzyme undergoes a progressive but partial inactivation over several hours.

Pyruvic decarboxylase inhibition in ketoaciduria [PDF]
A patient with intermittent episodes of cerebellar ataxia has been described (Pediat. 43:1025, 1969). The child excreted large amounts of urinary pyruvic acid during an episode which was studied in detail. Fibrobalst tissue culture cells were assayed for pyruvic decarboxylase and found to contain a low concentration of this enzyme.

The Bifunctional Pyruvate Decarboxylase/Pyruvate Ferredoxin Oxidoreductase fromThermococcus guaymasensis [PDF]
The hyperthermophilic archaeonThermococcus guaymasensisproduces ethanol as a metabolic end product, and an alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) catalyzing the reduction of acetaldehyde to ethanol has been purified and characterized. However, the enzyme catalyzing the formation of acetaldehyde has not been identified.

The relationships between transketolase, yeast pyruvate decarboxylase and pyruvate dehydrogenase of the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex [PDF]
The amino acid sequences of four thiamine pyrophosphate‐requiring enzymes were aligned with the published amino acid sequence of the transketolase of Hansenula polymorpha. Sequences of the combined α and β subunits of the E1 enzyme of the pyruvate dehydrogenase complexes of Homo sapiens and Bacillus stearothermophilus aligned well with the ...

Without oxygen, most vertebrates die within minutes as they cannot meet cellular energy demands with anaerobic metabolism. However, fish of the genus Carassius (crucian carp and goldfish) have evolved a specialized metabolic system that allows them to ...

Decarboxylation of Pyruvate to Acetaldehyde for Ethanol Production by Hyperthermophiles
Pyruvate decarboxylase (PDC encoded by pdc) is a thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP)-containing enzyme responsible for the conversion of pyruvate to acetaldehyde in many mesophilic organisms.
