Interaction between coaxial dielectric disks enhances the Q-factor [PDF]
We study the behavior of resonant modes under variation of the distance between two coaxial dielectric disks and show an avoided crossing of resonances because of interaction between the disks.

Increasing the Quality Factor (Q) of 1D Photonic Crystal Cavity with an End Loop-Mirror
Increasing the quality factor (Q-factor) of an optical resonator device has been a research focus utilized in various applications. Higher Q-factor means light is confined in a longer time which will produce a sharper peak and higher transmission.

Ultrahigh–Q Microtoroid On-Chip Resonators for Low Threshold Microlasers [PDF]
Recently demonstrated silica toroidal microcavities, as on-chip resonant cavities, become one of the most promising laser resonators due to their exceptional ability to confine optical energy temporarily and spatially (high Q-factor and small mode volume)
