Q-Matrix Estimation Methods for Cognitive Diagnosis Models: Based on Partial Known Q-Matrix
Multivariate Behavioral Research, 2020Different from the item response models that postulate a single underlying proficiency, cognitive diagnostic assessments (CDAs) can provide fine-grained diagnostic information about students' knowledge state to aid classroom instructions. In CDAs, a Q-matrix that associates each item in a test with the cognitive skills is required to infer students ...

It is clear from the examples in Chapter 18 (this volume) that the algebra involved in kinetic arguments can be quite lengthy, even for simple mechanisms with only three states. For more complex mechanisms it becomes rapidly worse. Furthermore, this complicated algebra would have to be carried out separately for every kinetic mechanism that was of ...

A General Method of Empirical Q-matrix Validation
Psychometrika, 2016In contrast to unidimensional item response models that postulate a single underlying proficiency, cognitive diagnosis models (CDMs) posit multiple, discrete skills or attributes, thus allowing CDMs to provide a finer-grained assessment of examinees’ test performance.

Using machine learning to improve Q-matrix validation
Behavior Research Methods, 2023The Q-matrix, which specifies the relationship between items and attributes, is a crucial component of cognitive diagnostic models (CDMs). A precisely specified Q-matrix allows for valid cognitive diagnostic assessments. In practice, a Q-matrix is usually developed by domain experts, and noted as being subjective and potentially containing ...

Relevance-Aware Q-matrix Calibration for Knowledge Tracing
2021Knowledge tracing (KT) lies at the core of intelligent education, which aims to diagnose students’ changing knowledge level over time based on their historical performance. Most of the existing KT models either ignore the significance of Q-matrix associated exercises with knowledge concepts (KCs) or fail to eliminate the subjective tendency of experts ...

Dichotomous and Polytomous Q Matrix Theory
2016Besides specifying the Q matrix correctly, an extended Q matrix theory should provide some answers to following questions: (a) how to find the universal set of knowledge states (KSs), (b) how to use an algorithm to calculate the set of ideal response patterns (IRPs), (c) how to construct the test Q matrix which establishes one-to-one mapping from the ...

Experimental Analysis of the Q-Matrix Method in Knowledge Discovery
2005The q-matrix method, a new method for data mining and knowledge discovery, is compared with factor analysis and cluster analysis in analyzing fourteen experimental data sets. This method creates a matrix-based model that extracts latent relationships among observed binary variables.
