A multi-centre dosimetry audit on advanced radiotherapy in lung as part of the Isotoxic IMRT study

open access: yesPhysics and Imaging in Radiation Oncology, 2017
Background and purpose: In lung cancer patients, the accuracy of dose calculation by radiotherapy treatment planning systems may be reduced by the presence of tissue inhomogeneities.

Quick and (not so) Dirty: Unsupervised Selection of Justification Sentences for Multi-hop Question Answering

open access: yes, 2019
We propose an unsupervised strategy for the selection of justification sentences for multi-hop question answering (QA) that (a) maximizes the relevance of the selected sentences, (b) minimizes the overlap between the selected facts, and (c) maximizes the

Supervised and Unsupervised Transfer Learning for Question Answering

open access: yes, 2018
Although transfer learning has been shown to be successful for tasks like object and speech recognition, its applicability to question answering (QA) has yet to be well-studied.

Process‐Informed Analysis of As‐Built Metal Additive Surface Features

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article introduces a novel method for feature‐based surface texture characterisation directly incorporating manufacturing variables into the feature extraction workflow. This marks a major step towards identifying process‐specific surface properties and their influence on part function and hence a holistic understanding of process–structure ...

Dimension minimization of a quantum automaton

open access: yes, 2008
A new model of a Quantum Automaton (QA), working with qubits is proposed. The quantum states of the automaton can be pure or mixed and are represented by density operators. This is the appropriated approach to deal with measurements and dechorence.

Role of Histidine‐Containing Peptoids in Accelerating the Kinetics of Calcite Growth

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Amphiphilic histidine‐containing peptoids mimic carbonic anhydrase (CA) to accelerate calcite step growth. In the presence of Zn2+, they promote the deprotonation of HCO3−, the desolvation of Ca2+, and the reorganization of interfacial hydration layers, thereby reducing the activation barrier for calcite growth.

Optimization by Quantum Annealing: Lessons from Simple Cases

open access: yes, 2005
This paper investigates the basic behavior and performance of simulated quantum annealing (QA) in comparison with classical annealing (CA). Three simple one dimensional case study systems are considered, namely a parabolic well, a double well, and a ...

Melt Electrowriting High Resolution Poly(ethylene‐co‐vinyl acetate) Scaffolds for Soft Tissue Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work pioneers melt electrowriting (MEW) of polyethylene vinyl acetate (PEVA) to fabricate ultra‐compliant, high‐resolution scaffolds. By integrating microscale precision with soft tissue‐like biomechanics, PEVA overcomes stiffness‐driven limitations of conventional MEW polymers, establishing a mechanically biomimetic platform for soft tissue ...
