Searching for Radio Transients with Inverted Spectra in Epoch 1 of VLASS and VCSS, and Identification of a Sample of Candidate Relativistic Nuclear Transients

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
For radio transients, an inverted spectrum (defined as α  > 0 for a power-law spectrum S _ν  ∝  ν ^α ) constrains physical properties, which in principle can be a useful criterion for selecting specific targets of interest in a transient search.

Solar Flare Prediction Using Long Short-term Memory (LSTM) and Decomposition-LSTM with Sliding Window Pattern Recognition

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
We investigate the use of long short-term memory (LSTM) and decomposition-LSTM (DLSTM) networks, combined with an ensemble algorithm, to predict solar flare occurrences using time series data from the GOES catalog.

Carbon-rich Dust Injected into the Interstellar Medium by Galactic WC Binaries Survives for Hundreds of Years

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Some carbon-rich Wolf–Rayet (WC) stars show an infrared excess from dust emission (WCd stars). Dust forms in the collision of the WC wind with a companion star’s wind.

Mahakala: A Python-based Modular Ray-tracing and Radiative Transfer Algorithm for Curved Spacetimes

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We introduce Mahakala , a Python -based, modular, radiative ray-tracing code for curved spacetimes. We employ Google’s JAX framework for accelerated automatic differentiation, which can efficiently compute Christoffel symbols directly from the metric ...

An Extremely Metal-poor Lyα Emitter Candidate at z = 6 Revealed through Absorption Spectroscopy

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
We report the discovery of a Ly α emitter (LAE) candidate in the immediate foreground of the quasar PSO J158-14 at z _QSO = 6.0685 at a projected distance ∼29 pkpc that is associated with an extremely metal-poor absorption system.
