Resolved Measurements of the CO-to-H2 Conversion Factor in 37 Nearby Galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We measure the CO-to-H _2 conversion factor ( α _CO ) in 37 galaxies at 2 kpc resolution, using the dust surface density inferred from far-infrared emission as a tracer of the gas surface density and assuming a constant dust-to-metal ratio.

ALMA-LEGUS. II. The Influence of Subgalactic Environments on Molecular Cloud Properties

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We compare the molecular cloud properties in subgalactic regions of two galaxies, barred spiral NGC 1313, which is forming many massive clusters, and flocculent spiral NGC 7793, which is forming significantly fewer massive clusters despite having a ...

Zone of Preferential Heating for Minor Ions in the Solar Wind

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The properties of minor ions in the solar wind are important indicators of the state of the solar corona and the heating processes it undergoes as it expands.

Ejection Patterns in the DG Tau Jet over the Last 40 yr: Insights into Mass Accretion Variability

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We aim to clarify the link between mass accretion and ejection by analyzing DG Tau’s jet observations from optical and near-infrared data spanning 1984–2019, alongside photometric variations between 1983 and 2015.

The Origins of Gas Accreted by Supermassive Black Holes: The Importance of Recycled Gas

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We investigate the fueling mechanisms of supermassive black holes (SMBHs) by analyzing 10 zoom-in cosmological simulations of massive galaxies, with stellar masses 10 ^11–12 M _⊙ and SMBH masses 10 ^8.9–9.7 M _⊙ at z = 0, featuring various major and ...

GRB 220304A: Another Gamma-Ray Burst Dominated by Thermal Radiation

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We report a recently detected long-duration gamma-ray burst (GRB) event by Fermi-GBM, GRB 220304A. The spectral analysis of the burst by the Band function shows that both the time-integrated and time-resolved spectra are very narrow, with low-energy ...

Energy Dissipation in Electron-only Reconnection

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Magnetic reconnection is a fundamental process in space and astrophysical plasmas that converts magnetic energy to particle energy. Recently, a novel kind of reconnection, called electron-only reconnection, has been observed in Earth's magnetosheath ...

UNCOVER Spectroscopy Confirms the Surprising Ubiquity of Active Galactic Nuclei in Red Sources at z > 5

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The James Webb Space Telescope is revealing a new population of dust-reddened broad-line active galactic nuclei (AGN) at redshifts z ≳ 5. Here we present deep NIRSpec/Prism spectroscopy from the Cycle 1 Treasury program Ultradeep NIRSpec and NIRCam ...

Galactic Diffuse Emission from Radio to Ultra-high-energy γ-Rays in Light of Up-to-date Cosmic-Ray Measurements

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Cosmic rays (CRs) travel throughout the Galaxy, leaving traces from radio to ultra-high-energy γ -rays due to interactions with the interstellar gas, radiation field, and magnetic field.
